Anyone else wish Fender..

Brought back a certain bass/color option/string type/effect/amp or something they liked? For me, I wish Fender would bring back the natural P bass with the maple neck. That was so.. awesome. They even had a fretless model and it was unlined! So cool! Not to derail my own thread, but I want one that looks similar.. and I can't find one. Suggestions?

I don't mind if fender bring anything back since anything can be had from a huge number of builders, building basically the same instrumenrs, so if fender do it doesn't matter at all to me.

How about a Tele bass that actually sports a telecaster shaped body?

Would dive at 34". Won't sell (as much as they'd like) for this same reason. Maybe 32"

Man I wish they would make certain colors available at ALL times like black and natural...

They'd have to spend more money and time on wood selection and matching. The cost would be passed on to the buyer.

Also, it would be REAL cool if they either out sourced their electronics or made them comparable to the great preamp/pickup companies. And, yes 4,5 and 6 string basses with 24 frets...

They made their bones selling passive fourbangers with 20 frets. They're already in competition with luthiers who've built improvements in quality and/or componentry- now you want them to try to hang with guys who've been doing what they do for a lot longer?

The Custom shop will build what you want, as exemplified by their Alien Ant Farm beauty. I figured the guy had a Fender endorsement. But I dont think it's fair to ask Fender to get into waters as deep as what you're describing. It goes against what made them rich and what makes a certain kind of bassist refuse anything else but that design.

Fender's in a perfect place- very little looks exactly like a Fender body that costs the same. Low end, you've got SX, Squier, Turser, etc, and on the high end, you've got the big boys- Grosh, Lull, Sadowsky, Low End, etc. Not much in the middle but Schecter Diamonds and maybe one or two other factories.

Right now, if you've got $500-$1300 to spend on a Fender-style bass and you want

1) new and already built (the latter excludes Warmoth)

2) to play it before you buy

then Fender is the best option.

Raise that upper price much at all and people would just go buy a used or new Lakland Skyline instead. They're all over the 'bay for less than $1200.

I don't care what Fender do because..... There are so many Fender clones!

Sandberg - Hand made, hand crafted, hand finished, by Germans, in Germany.... For a lower price?! I'll probably visit the Sandberg factory and get me one when I get work in Germany. :)

5 string P/J bound and blocked in both Jazz and P bodies
5 string single coil precision (in both Jazz or P bodies)
5 string P deluxe (see above parentheses)
Bass V reissue with a low B (this one an exact replica except available with BEADG or EADGC).

If I wait long enough Squier VM and CV might just cover all those basses (bases).

On the American instruments (Special or Standard, your choice Fender):
Matching headstocks on Jazz basses
Shoreline Gold!!!
Fiesta Red
Foam Green
Daphne Blue
...did I mention Shoreline Gold?

In the meantime, I like the looks of a new AmStd P in Jade Pearl Metallic. Well, at least in my head I do. It would be nice if Fender would actually put a photo of the thing on the website. . .
