Anyone ever had a bass off at a show?

I know stuff like that is probly a lil taboo on this site, but I was just wondering. The last show I played was sort of a punk vs metal themed show, so for the last act my band(metal) and the punk bass got on stage all at once (which sucked balls cuz there wasnt room enough for anyone to move), and we traded off playing songs. Of course, when we were done playing our sets, the singers got all excited and challenged each other to individual instrument battles, which ticked me off, cuz I hate to be put on the spot like that, and I was also pissed cuz there was nobody there who knew music enough to be the judge of who wins anyway. I dont wanna toot my own horn, but I kicked the guys ass, I played stuff I composed on the fly, and I learned later that the other guy was playing some other bands stuff thinking no one would know. But the icing on the cake is, the other guy won because they let the audience decide, I was extremely pissed, but at least I had fun(all the compliments on my awesome playing helped calm me down). Thats my bass-off story, maybe some of you could share yours.

Guitar duels are the antithesis of music.

I have never understood the concept of "(insert instrument here)-offs." It's one thing to improvise and trade off riffs, but what the heck is the point of trying to prove that you're "better" than someone else at the same instrument? Especially when you take into consideration that the average man on the street knows nothing about bass or what makes a good bassist and thinks that slapping INSTANTLY makes you a great bassist, it just doesn't make any sense. Music should be about people coming together and NOT about one person being "better" than another.
