Yeah this thing of "I'm satisfied", "more gear won't help me play better", "my GAS is gone" and "I finally bought my last bass"..... yeah yeah, that's just a temporary condition. GAS is the normal condition.... so this I'm satisfied thing, it'll go away, don't worry....
As for me, I lost all my basses along with all my personal property last summer (long story), so since then I've been reacquiring basses. It started out as just I want something to play at all, but at this point I just bought my 5th bass, my CLF Research L2000.
The most painful loss last summer was my original L2K fretless which I bought new in 2000 (IIRC) and was my primary bass for the intervening 20 years. I also decided that after about 15 years full time on the FL, I wanted to finally try a fretted bass again. So I killed 2 birds with one stone and got the CLF Research reissue L2K.
So now I have 2 copies of a Jaco Artist (treats the jazz bass fretless GAS), 2 Tony Franklins (treats the unlined FL GAS) and the L2K (covers the loss of my original L2K). So for the time being I've lost interest in browsing
Sweetwater and Reverb.
But I know that's a temporary condition and some form of GAS will come back.
For example, I'm not 100% convinced I'm going to return to the fretted bass. I love how precise and forgiving the fretted bass is, but I still sound just as bad on the fretted as I do on the fretless. So I have noticed the Tony Franklin still hops out of the case, comes over and starts humping the leg after a day or two of the L2K. At some point something goes "Ok, lets do this on the FL and see what we got" and I stow the L2K in the meantime.
I can't quite figure it out, it might just be because I'm so used to the FL that frets just feel really strange.
What will probably happen is the GAS will return in the form of "ok I need a fretless L2K now to supplement the fretted one" and the merry-go-round will start again.
Meanwhile, the checkbook and I are enjoying the short break....
