Anyone ever run outa gas?

I can honestly say I am not even considering making a bass related purchase.
at the meetings, we call that "teeing up!"

Anyone ever run outa gas?
yeah, but it may be related to the vicissitudes of old-age in general --- i've got a bunch of fretless necks and various bodies that need to be paired up and finished...maybe i will, maybe i won't.... :)

maybe GAS is age-related. (?) :nailbiting:

i don't have GAS like i did when i was younger. it's no longer a 'compulsion' and it seems to be a chore (requires more energy than the payoff returns in 'satisfaction').

I'm totally there. Spent the better part of 20 years buying, selling and trading basses. Acquired a few that were clearly keepers, and kept those. Swapped out the others over time, as I got a better handle on what I was looking for. In 2019 I sold one and bought one, and that was it, the last piece of the puzzle. Not saying I don't still see cool basses that tempt me, but I have stuck to the one-in, one-out rule for a long time. There's nothing out there that makes me willing to give up one of the ones I have.

I never had the same issue with amps and cabs. I rarely play out (even pre-COVID), and I've never owned more than one amp at a time, except for a brief period where I bought one while another was posted in the classifieds. My fEARful cab is one I built myself, so that's not going anywhere.

I'm pretty satisfied with my current rig situation, but it took me almost 40 years to get to where I'm at. There might be a few effect pedals (for the novelty) and another HPF (or two, because mine seems to get left on my desk at the house) in my future, but other than that, I'm very content. I'm confident that I can cover every basic sound I'd ever want or need to, any size venue where I wouldn't have FOH support. With the exceptions of one of my Peavey Foundations needing a new topnut, a Peavey MK IV head needing a new pot or two, and a couple cabs needing a new coat of Duratex, everything works as it should and looks stage-worthy and is gig-ready. So yeah, I'm good.

I’m sure this has been covered before but I find myself totally satisfied with my gear.

Over satisfied even.

4 wonderful amp heads. 5 great cabs.

And 3 of the best Basses I’ve ever owned.

I can’t find any instrument or amplification that interest me. But oh how I love to use what I got.

Anyone else finding they have arrived at gear heaven?

Yep. I'm kinda good where I am now, got a couple of nice basses and a nice combo for gigs. Got a big ampeg stack in the garage just in case.

Nowadays I am wanting a bigger house for the family (and so Daddy can have a stereo/music room). That's what I am GASing for.

I have had GAS for many years and also been involved in trading, buying & selling, etc. which is also fun..Be careful and checkout thoroughly and ask yourself if "said gear" will be of actual use now or in the future, or will it end up a decoration or somewhere out of sight in a case...I found out my GAS was the worst while gigging every week and looking for the "perfect" bass and test driving the latest in a variety of instruments at the local music shops & Pawn shops..With "Live gigs" not happening now, and probably not for awhile, my GAS has slowed and I am spending time appreciating the gear that I have.

I'm mostly GAS-free, which is largely because I'm also gig-free. But it's more than that, because I've also been in downsizing mode for several months. I sold off half of my G-K bass amplification and both of my guitar amps, which I replaced with one. I've also placed one guitar for sale, and I'll eventually list one or two basses, some recording gear, and possibly my keyboard.

But I'm struggling with the basses. I know exactly what my perfect lineup would be--my G&L USA M-2500, a passive J5, a J4, and a P-bass. I actually have something like this lineup, but I'm not crazy about my J5, and I have two four-string J-basses. I only need one J, but they're my two favorite fours of all time, so I simply can't bear to part with either one. So I'm stuck at five.

This has led me to consider selling the J5 and my P-bass (a G&L SB-2), and getting a five-string P-bass to replace both (probably a Sandberg VS five). But I know I'd regret selling the SB-2, so I'm back up to five basses.

I can't exactly call this a problem, but I would like to get down to four basses. I'll probably wait until downsizing our living space forces the issue.

Been there. When I had the two Alembic five-strings, going looking at basses was like jumping the in Ferrari 512 to go look at Chevys . . . . . nothing at GC or Corner Music or anywhere else was 'better' or had something I lacked at the time. Hard to get excited about a GSX/R when I rode up on an MV F4i.

But at the same time I'd been at this long enough, and had studied and examined enough instruments to have a sense of what worked, what was solid, what was useable, and what worked for me inside that knowledge base. After that, it was quick enough to spot BS or things that just weren't necessary or just window dressing.

So now, IF I darken the door of a music store, I know what I'm looking at, and the ardor, as they say, has cooled, and it's down to something interestingly cost-effective, which these days has been several remarkable Squiers that punch way above their weight for their price range.

I was never one to idolize axes; I enjoyed them if they were well-made tools, but was never truly obsessive or had a 'bass for life', as I've had several different lives. They all had their day, I enjoyed what they taught and told me, and then it was time for them to move on.

I have 3 terrific basses that cover all my desires, aside from a bit of idle lust for a red Pedulla Rapture. My amps are great, I have a great preamp for recording, a great mini practice rig. I'm not sold on adding a wireless for my gigging situation, cords have been fine. I think I am done buying for a long time ahead.

It did remind me that I've got a bunch of gear that needs new ownership.

Do it! That way you'll have a bunch of cash when the next GAS attack hits..

Dunno if my GAS has even gone away. Maybe gotten older and wiser: I don't have a feeling I would "need" something else, but I like to try out new things and am always on a lookout if I find something that really feels special.

Used to have 30ish basses, owned60+ over the years. Down to 4 or 5. Only play 2, the others are nostalgia. Had a number of amps. Down to one. I'm happy. No gas.
