I have left most of my late 80s aesthetic sense behind, but I still think these things look pretty cool.
Oh my Yeah I have a 1999 NS 2000/4 this bass always gets the chicks. Its like a lure for chicks lol. Holoflash looks greyish in no light but it lights up like an opal in lighting
Hey guys, my girlfriend did a mock up of what the blackburst fade on the contour, edges and headstock would look like. Serious Spector vibes which was the original inspiration for me to get this bass in this finish as I owned a holoflash Legend 5 and loved it. For sure going with this. Definitely excited to see this bass in full working glory, pickguard may be tricky on this one.
There's a few people that do this as an aftermarket finish if you ever want to change a bass you already own into one. That's how I had my Dingwall done. But yeah the Spector finish was the first holoflash finish I ever saw and it followed me here.
I still have a Spector holoflash, still my favorite finish to date but getting rid of it since it's not a 5 string. Probably going to regret it since they are so hard to find, but just can't play 4 strings anymore.
These basses have the Stingray syndrome to me unfortunately. They look killer in a 4 string format but a 5 just changes something slightly and it looks off to my eye. Body style on these, pickguard on a Stingray, is a shame.
The NS2000/4 like mine there is made in S.K. , it has Brass nut , Solid Maple wings and 3 piece Maple neck-thru . Just like it's big brothers . I did however put in old EMG 35's and a K. Hazlab . If you ever see one in the wild snag it .
Would a clear pickguard refract the light and diminish the holoflash effect under it? If not, that might look pretty cool.
I would do this if I could, unfortunately this model of Dingwall has a route for both pickup positions, Combustion and NG-2 without space for a 3rd pickup to close the route. It would show :/ I'm thinking matte black to keep it simple but not sure yet.
What about covering the guard in holoflash film and clear coating? Holoflash Film Kramer Holographic Effect Choose Silver or | Etsy
I wonder if you could heat-transfer the holoflash film onto the back side of a clear guard, with the cool-looking side to the clear plastic, so it would show through somewhat as well as hide the extra unused pickup rout?
I've had a Spector Rex 5Pro in holoflash since about 2010. Love the bass, hard not to love a Spector sound, but the holoflash finish is beyond awesome on stage. I've considered having one of my other basses refinished in holoflash but wasn't able to find anyone that could do it. Your Dingwall looks awesome! Who's doing the black fusion holoflash finish for you?
Hey, check out a guy named Mean Street Guitars, his wait is long but holy cow I could not be happier with the work he put in and the communication. I'll probably get him to do a guitar in this black fusion holoflash in the future. He also has other color options, check out his holoflash/light FX gallery
I was thinking last night that a smoked mirror pickguard would be cool if it was closer to black than grey, also I ran your holoflash idea by a guy I've bought from in the past and unfortunately he never heard of it and I'm not one to press the issue. Matte black seems like the most simple solution to me, especially this manufacturer's as it's quite dark from what I'm accustomed to. The holoflash will respond heavily to light and the matte not much so it seems like a good contrast on paper.
That seems like a good solution; I had not considered the contrast between matte black and shiny holoflash.
