Anyone got a holoflash bass?

Now @GBassNorth has got me reminiscing on my Spector days haha, I've always wanted to try a Spector Euro but never had the chance. You're right man, a Spector sound is usually a good sound depending on the context and I recon the Legend Classic could get about 80% of the way there to that authentic growl. Never played a Rex but looks sweet!

Dingwall currently has me semi brainwashed but if I got any non Dingwall bass I'd reach for Spector or Warwick first.

These basses have the Stingray syndrome to me unfortunately. They look killer in a 4 string format but a 5 just changes something slightly and it looks off to my eye. Body style on these, pickguard on a Stingray, is a shame.
Man...I like the pickguard on the Stringray 5 waaaay more than the 4. The 4 just looks like an egg

I've had a Spector Rex 5Pro in holoflash since about 2010. Love the bass, hard not to love a Spector sound, but the holoflash finish is beyond awesome on stage.

I've considered having one of my other basses refinished in holoflash but wasn't able to find anyone that could do it. Your Dingwall looks awesome! Who's doing the black fusion holoflash finish for you?

Gawd I love that f***in bass :bassist:

In a 5 string too...

I'm quite jealous of you my friend, I wish I liked it but I just find the 4 more normal looking I guess? One thing we can probably agree on is that the Stingray sound is a pretty awesome one, my Dingwall seldom gets played outside of series mode in the NG-2 position. I just can't quit that fat, forward and slightly rolled off tone.

Hey, check out a guy named Mean Street Guitars, his wait is long but holy cow I could not be happier with the work he put in and the communication. I'll probably get him to do a guitar in this black fusion holoflash in the future. He also has other color options, check out his holoflash/light FX gallery
Thanks!
Just checked it out, tons of awesome finishes. I'll be contacting him in a few weeks, as soon as I decide which finish I like best.

Sweet, good luck choosing haha. If I didn't already commit/begin the swap to black hardware I have no clue what I would have picked, so many cool ones for sure.

That gold Thunderbird in your profile pic is that a standard finish on a production model or a custom finish? It looks killer! I used to have a silver burst one quite a long time ago but couldn't gel with it. Also what kind of bass are you getting in holoflash if you don't mind me asking.

The gold Thunderbird was a limited run by Gibson in 2013 for their 50th anniversary of the TBird model. It's a wonderful playing bass and a nice departure from traditional bursts...

It's a very unique finish, the gold bullion paint is applied directly to the mahogany body and neck with no filler so it seeps into the pores and shows the grain, then about a dozen clear coats go over the top of that to give it a deep glass like look. Very interesting up close.

As for the holoflash finish, I was originally thinking of one of the P basses I built but haven't finished. However, after a bit more thought I came to the conclusion that there's too much real estate eaten up by the pickguard on a P bass. So now I'm leaning more towards a bass design that has a modern shape and large body with no pickguard. Maybe something like this...

Bass came in so I dropped my disassembled body and neck at my local luthier's place along with a bag of hardware, electronics, a Darkglass tone capsule and new pickups.

Here's a quick picture I took of it in normal light with a matte black pickguard, I really like the way this finish behaves compared to my old spector. Less dull and dusty, more dark but still colorful. He did a killer job on the burst. I really dig it, black hardware is going to be sick.

My favorite picture to date, the matte black bakelite really completes the look.

Have to get this body redone as I'm not a huge fan of the burst going down the neck pocket, also the color pokes slightly above the pickguard on the right side.

It plays like a dream so once that is done I'm never getting rid of this bass barring some terrible life event.
