hehe, whoops you got me there! hopefully these ratings are still decipherable! =)

As you can see, I'm from the District of Columbia... I should have realized we don't grow coffee here! Which reminds me... if anyone is from the DC area, check out Mayorga coffee roasters in Silver Spring. They're awesome.

DOH! We're all about the beer here, bro. There are some coffee roasters and importers around here actually, but...we're all about the beer. :cool:

At least we're not talking Pre-Columbian coffee here. Man, that's some moldy, skanky stuff.

I think they're great, as long as you go slow on the press and don't have too fine a grind. I'm actually thinking of doing a coffee roasting/grinding/serving business in partnership with my Cuban tabaquero friend. He makes the most incredible cigars I've ever smoked, and they're UNREAL when paired with a good espresso or Cuban coffee. The two tastes go together like a good marriage, like chocolate and peanut butter, like red wine goes with a fine steak...I could start up with minimal cost, and go live on the internet for very little as well. That would give me something to do on weekends... ;)

I have a press and have used them many times. I think the coffee is just fine but I actually think my cone filter coffee maker gives me a more robust cup. Most will disagree but that's my experience...even after letting the press brew for increasing periods of time. I use my press when camping though (it's lexan).

In many areas, a big problem in coffee makers is deposits from minerals dissolved in the water. Here in southern California, for example, my coffee maker develops deposits much faster than when I lived in Connecticut. These require a mild acid to dissolve and remove. There are some lemon juice-based products for doing this, or you can use a general lime remover like CLR. You'll have to run several potfuls of water through to rinse out the acid and the minerals.

I use distilled water in my pot- really has no deposits. Of course, that's a pain to have to get out the distilled-water jug every time you want a pot, but I found that the tap water where I live has mold spores in it. I could take a pot, drink most of it, then let it sit overnite. The next morning, it looked like a penicillin farm. When I went to distilled water, I could do the same thing, but days later, there would be no mold. Interesting...

i admit that i have a jones for dunkie...there are only two DDs within reasonable travel here, so it's more of a treat anymore...:(
unlike quincy, ma, where i lived for years...nuthin' like living in the town where it all started....:D
my favorite shop for high end coffee used to be coffee connection, which had the bestest friggin' java on the planet. too bad george sold out.... :spit:
my favorite kind of high end is ethiopian yrgacheffe.
someday i hope to try kopi luwak, but...expensive as hell and...
do i really want to try a coffee that got passed through an animal's digestive tract? :eek:

I finally got a bag of Peets coffee and it's really good. Major Dickasons...going to try other Peets beans too.

I've decided to go the route of French Press - just have to order one. I'm not satisfied with auto-drip. I feel like I can't get my coffee strong enough and I'm wondering how much flavor the filter is keeping out of the pot. French Press is supposed to taste better so I'm trying it out. I'm always looking for ways to improve my coffee!! For me its kind of like searching for tone with bass - it never ends.

I picked up a french press a few months ago and its great! Just got the $30 one from target. Make sure you get coarse ground coffee! Dont put in the water boiling or it kills the taste. Press as lightly as possible for the least amount of sediment. You will always have some at the bottom of your cup but you dont have to (probably shouldnt) drink it. The french press is an excellent cup.
