Anyone here own a Pearce BC1 preamp?

I own 2 of them, and it's the only preamp I've used for the last 3 years. You have 2 seperate channels, each with gain,3 way tone controls/semi parametric mids, effecs loop, master volume, and a usable compressor to keep everything nice and smooth. You can run each channel seperate,or mix the two together. The only drawback is that it has a fairly weak output signal. But,I use a 2100 watt power amp with it,It's not a big deal. Billy Shennan has been using them for a long, long time. Great pre for not a whole lot of money. They generally go for around 300.00 in decent shape,if you can find one! Definitely worth checking out.

I had one, sold it for three times I paid for it, fumbled around trying to get a decent sound again, walked in to a local store, saw one for $99.99, plugged it in, heard my tone again and bought it!

Very flexible pre. You can actually set it up to drive two separate amps. The two channels have different voicings, so if you use two basses you can have completely different setting for each instrument. One channel has more of a tubey old school tone with a lot of low punch and the other has a more SS sound with more gain. I can't imagine what the BS "Doom Boost" mod would do. Crank the gain on channel 2, turn on the boost, roll off the bass and run your bass wide open and you will make guitarists weep!

I like to use channel 1 primarily and will set channel 2 to give a bit of a boost. A standard Peavey 2-button footswitch will work with the Pearce, each button works as an on/off switch for each channel, so you can turn off both channels to serve as a mute.

I will not let this one go!

Hi guys, I'm italian, I've bought a BC-1 without the doom boost, but I want to modify the preamp. Anyone here has the schematics of the modifications?
thanks anyway and sorry for my english :-))

I just got a sheehan modded G1 which is the exact one in his rack. The guy I bought it from says that his son has the schematics for it including the "mod" PM me so that I have your address and if I get the prints, I'll send you a copy. Leave your e-mail address with the pm. I love this G1. I used to own a BC-1 without the mod and it was great but, I prefer this one alot more!

Yup. I just got back my billy sheehan modded g1. I had the clean channel modded to the bc-1 specs. I also had some more low end added in and the output increased by 6db. I like alot more now. It won't be my only or last preamp but I'll never sell it.

I'm not too worried about the LEDs, but do you think I might have to do some re-wiring? Not that it would be the end of the world, but plug and play would be nice.

Since that Peavey footswitch is intended for two distinct functions, I suspect that you'll have push-on/push-off for each channel. If that's what you want, you should be all set (unless the LEDs mess something up...I don't know).

When I had my BC-1, I had the footswitch set up for Channel 1/Channel 2 and Combine.

The left button would switch between channels and the right one would turn them both on regardless of which was active at the time.

I have 2 of the BC1 pre's and love them. they have been the most reliable pieces of gear ever. I've owned one of them since the year they came out.

My main rig: I am using both channels mixing into one, then out into a Digitech TSR-24 FX processor, out via stereo, thru an aphex aural exciter type C,
into a carver PM1.5 amp into 2 SWR Goliath 2's 4X10 cabs.

I know it sounds like over kill being in stereo, but the width and tone is amazing, and I dont have to be that loud.
I make my living as a sound engineer, and can say that I have won over quite a few other soundguys, I have it all simplified with DI outputs,
just set the gain on each channel, pan to 9 & 3 and leave the eq flat let the Tobias's and rig do the talking...

Just getting back into rock after decades and have a BC1 I picked up used a ways back... I wonder if anyone can tell me the characteristics of the compressor? Also, am using an EV 15B in the TL606 cabinet and a Peavey twin 10 w/horn, and currently two power amps, but want to try my venerable BGW 250C power amp. Thoughts on one side per speaker vs. parallel fed by bridging the amp? Also, people say "one channel is clean and one is distorted" but not which is which... I was using in in a big jazz band and it was great to be able to switch between electric and standup (piezo with no volume control) but I never explored tone differences between the two channels. Obviously very different inputs and I was going for a clean tone. Guess I need to experiment.
