The reason I ask is that I have GAS. I think the economy is about to TANK. Anyone holding out on buying a bass?

Probably only used gear sold by individuals. If it gets bad enough that people need to feed their families.
New gear from manufactures / big stores will probably have some discount sales to lure potential buyers as business slows.. same as it ever was, only now, more people shop online... so I guess its hard to predict.

I doubt there will be a lot. Stuff is going to slow down until this passes, and will just start up again. If it's the black death, there won't be many gigs anyway.
Personally, I think you're overestimating the effect on gear prices.

I can think of much more important issues to worry about at the moment.
It would be nice if things got a little cheaper, but I hope not a lot. I do have a couple nice things that I hope I'd be able to hock for a decent sum if I needed fast cash. It'd be a real bummer if I lost that value.
I do think that some of the higher-end vintage instruments will lose some value, but only probably in another 20 years or so. Unless we all die all of a sudden, I think (and hope) a $2000 bass will probably stay that way.

Probably depends on which market segment.
I think we already saw some of that with the basses going for <$20.
The custom makers, OTOH, are unlikely to start in on fire-sales.

I forsee this kicking off a bit of a storm (which may have started) so I'll ask a clarifying question: did you mean more important than getting bargains on new instruments?

lots of folks may be out of work for a bit. If it comes to it, the market is likely to flood with used basses - not a bad point.
But, in reality I don't see that happening to anything more than a small percent.. maybe 15% more used basses than normal? and only for a few weeks.

There may be a forced sale of gear from working musicians. I see the live performance business tanking for a few months.
I've been holding out on selling basses...but it's been a crappy sellers market for some time...
