Anyone into expensive flashlights?

Hmmm... my birthday's coming up... :p

Do you want it with the Fifty cal. or with out? We use to get an occasional M6 in at the shop, they put out 500 lumens at peak setting and touching the lens WILL burn your hand. The M6 was basically a hand held car hi-beam but more focused. I can't imagine 3500 Lumens! That must be the equivalent of one of those Circus or "grand opening" type spotlights, hand hold-able at only 10 lbs. you know my birthday is the twentieth!

anyone got any idea how much should i expect to pay for one of these mythical super-powerful torches?

You can get the Surefire G2 Nitrolon, which is as bright (or maybe a little brighter) than the E2E for around 30 bucks. It's just made of a durable, high-impact plastic and it's slightly larger. Surefire's warranty is unmatched in that industry. I recommend ordering your batteries from them too because they're expensive if you buy them in a retail store.

You can also get a Streamlight Scorpion for $30-$35. It's brighter than the Surefire and is harder to accidentally turn on (which is nice because that bulb gets hot fast and the batteries don't last all that long.

I just have an Inova X-5, in blue. other than that, a 3 cell Mag and a key LED which currently needs a battery. the BMW Key has a red LED on it, but it's really only useful for finding the keyhole in the dark.

none of my lights were expensive...or sexensive either.

What's the use? I have many uses for a super-bright flashlight and I have few for a laser (unless it's mounted on the back of a shark of course).

I am a Maglite consumer, my 2AA used to be blue, nice and aluminUm colOred from years of service. My 6D has many uses, it once chocked the wheel of a boat trailer. Never had to give someone a torch shampoo, but i'm ready incase.
I will join this century sometime soon, LED lasts so much longer than those little tiny mag bulbs.

I'm a big fan of Surefire. When I lived in KC I was a competitive shooter and I got a great deal on Surefires. I also used them a lot with staging companies. My main lights are the A2 Aviator and the E2D. I like the A2 cuz it's got two stages of intensity. Press lightly and you get LEDs, press harder and you add the searing lamp. Just using the LEDs I can expect battery life of three to four months (compared to hours for some models)! The A2 isn't as light and compact as the E2D, although the A2 wins out overall by battery life alone.

The E2D has the advantage of having a recessed on/off control switch. Most of the other models only have a protruding momentary switch. I believe you can special order a recessed on/off switch for the other models. Normally with the others you have to twist the endcap to get it to stay on. Not with the E2D. It also has edges on either end so it has the added advantage of being used as a weapon and that right there makes it cool. :p
Oh yeah, I also used to have a Z3 combat light, too but it was stolen at a show in Lawrence, KS.
