I've been trying to unearth data on the Alvarez electric bass models for months. There's really very little info available.
My bass seems to be: Poplar or alder body, offset double cutaway, bolt-on maple neck. 4-string, 34" scale. 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with diagonal offset for inlay. 1-9/16" nut width. P/J setup with Alvarez passive pickups. 2 volume and one tone knob. Heavy cast bridge (fully adjustable for height and intonation), sealed tuners The neck is slimmer than a jazz but not as flimsy as an Ibanez. Atypical smaller rounded headstock (different than OP on this thread), tuners = 2-up, 2-down.
Interesting info in a listing I found that seems to apply: This model was made in Korea by Cort in probably between 89-95. It's a prototype model of the Alvarez Villain that was made from 95-00. After the Villain model sold better in a test sale in St. Louis, where Alvarez is based, they stopped production (of the prototype).
Just putting it out there as a "bread-crumb" for those interested.

I have an Alvarez bass 4 string black with EMG active pickups.. I got it new around 1991.. I think mine is one of the prototype's it was made in Korea..love the guitar .. have played it almost every weekend of new to now..Pardon me for stating it that way. When I tell or share that I play an Alavrez 5 string Bass seems most people give me the
" What you mean, Alvarez makes acoustics " look.
I get that they did not make many models of electric basses or guitars . Some like the AEB5 that I have are quite rare. I feel like the odd man out at times.
So just so I can see I am not alone are there any current or former Alvarez bass owners/players up in here,up in here ?

Just bought this yesterday for $120, put new strings on and she sound great if anybody can help me find out information about this bass I would appreciate it, cant find much on the net.
knobs, finish, and bridge are mods obviously. Korean made. Check back headstock for a serial #
Sent an email, no reply yet.*EDIT* didn’t see the 3rd pic. Tried the Alvarez archives yet?
I just bought this exact BASS at a music store in Prescott AZ. I was just visiting and for some reason walked into that store. It was the only used 5-string he had, and the price was $250. I loved the feel and sound, unfortnately I didn't really play with the knobs, but after I got it home I started to mess with the sound and noticed that the Bridge pickup doesn't seem to be working. I opened the back and it looks like somebody rewired it. I am waiting to hear back from Alvarez for the wiring diagram so I can fix it.Pardon me for stating it that way.
