Anyone using Ampeg?

Ok heres the deal. I started out many moons ago playing on Peavey gear. After a few years I upgraded to Hartke and swore by it for years. Last year, I bought an Ashdown amp to go with a Epifani cab and I loved the whole set up. But since I can't leave well enough alone. I sold it. :crying:

So now I'm rebuilding. I love Epifani and I love Schroeder so this monring I bought one of each from fell TBers (names escape me at the moment). Well, I'm looking for an amp now and since I can't afford the Ashdown King model...:crying:
I'm looking for something a little cheaper.

Well, I've found a really good deal on an Ampeg B2RE ($200). I know Ampeg speakers and I love them. But I've never heard their amps, nor do I know anyone who has used them. The low price kinda scares me because I beleilve in the old addage, "you get what you pay for." So would anyone like to weigh in on this? Coming from a Hartke/Ashdown background, do you think I'll be happy? Or should I just save my money and play unplugged until I can swing that King?

I can't think of many redeeming qualities for the B2RE. I thought the tone palette was rather bland. I was dissapointed in the power. Those two things are a big hit for an amp. If you are running expensive cabs, get a decent head. The best cabs on earth don't do much for a junky amp. You are basically putting 89 octane fuel in a NASCAR vehicle. About the best you could say is, "Yeah, at least it runs...."

Nice analogy on the nascar/fuel thing. Makes sense. And honestly, I already knew, I guess I just needed somebody else to tell me not to buy it. ON the plus side though, I found a local Hartke 5000 with a nice price tag on it. I;ve been through a few Hartkes and had several friends who used them and I know that they're descent amps. So I'll probably go ahead and buy it. Although, there are a few things on TB that have caught my eye. So we'll see how broke I am at the end of the day. :hmm:

ampeg was a killer company. Oh wait it still is just not like it use to. Ampegs are in my opinion a personal preference amp. Try it before you buy it. Some ppl dont like ampeg becuz they say it colors there tone up. Its all a matter of opinion.

I love Ampeg tone. I currently own SVT 3 & 5 Pro heads and a BXT-410HL.

I mostly play death metal and use a Sansamp + Poweramp system for that but anytime I play any more rock styled stuff I reach for an ampeg.

As for the low price thing... There are deals to be had out there. In fact I just picked up my SVT 5 Pro this week from a pawn shop for $500 that came with a rack and Korg rack tuner. The head works perfectly.

I love Ampegs. I only sold my SVT because it weighed a ton. Thanks to Ryan Morris I'm back into the Ampeg tone due to an SVP-CL (grouped with a Crown XTi-2000, a Korg rack tune and a Furman distributor at half the SVT weight). For Rock & Roll I'd take Ampeg and Mesa over anything else.

Well I did it. Even though I couldn't really afford the Ashdown MK500...I bought it anyway. I did find a great deal on one though. So I didn't pay the usual retail price. But still...it hurt a bit. But hey, I'm only 33. What do I need with a savings account? Right? Am I right? :hmm:
