No you don't, really, do you?...
Don't get me wrong, I think the plates are a great idea

No you don't, really, do you?And neither do I, for all the same reasons you list.
The pedalboards do look very nice though.
I got one recently and there are some really cool things about the plates: I was able to use them to mount powersupply / wireless receiver / micro thumpinator under the pedalboard more securely than with velcro alone.
But for the pedals, it was more of a pain than anticipated. If you don't have your pedalboard too crowded, and don't plan on making many changes, it can work nicely. But the plate alignment on pedal is crucial, and after finishing board my opinion is that next time I will just use velcro.
Thanks for that, Mr. Wilson! When I order mine I'll order a few plates after all. One for the power supply for sure and a few extras just in case.
Aren't custom district boards the same way but just without the adhesive on the plates? I think they basically recommend putting velcro or dual lock on the plates. To me, it would make the most sense to just use plates, but with velcro, that way you can always move the pedals a bit more if needed.
They look great and the plates, to me, is a great idea. However, as it's a mesh, it looks to me that continual use of the pedal towards the middle will eventually warp the board
you're right, I noticed the custom stuff after I had ordered the temple board. I love that I have the mondo power supply under mine plus wireless receiver / thumpinator to free room up top, but I'm sure I could get one from custom district to achieve same thing. But since I've already bought the Temple, I'm going to make the most of it. Since I change regularly and tend to pack in as much as I can, I'm at some point going to take plates off the pedals and just run strips of velcro and use holes in middle section of board for cables etc.Aren't custom district boards the same way but just without the adhesive on the plates? Since it took longer than planned to get board wired up due to plates etc I was running short of time and it's not as tidy as I'd like but thought I'd show what one looks like once loaded

It's a T17 T17 | Temple Audio DesignThat's a lotta lovely pedals on your board! The BW looks to be a bit of an awkward size.
Which Temple model is it?
