That's why I bought a warranty from Squaretrade for my iPhone. It was $74 for two years after coupon code AND it includes accidents and spills. So basically about the price of Applecare but with better coverage.

Nice, having to pay that when you purchase a product that costed a nice bunch of hard earned cash ..

If I purchase a 1500 eur laptop, I expect it to work "normal" _at least_ for 5 years..

Throughout high school every PC laptop I saw had more problems and needed to be replaced more often than my mac(s).

This complaint everyone has about there not being support beyond warranty, I don't know of any other laptop company with a far better warranty plan. And if you're going to drop $1000+ on a piece of technology in an industry where it takes two months for something to be outdated, it's nothing but your own fault if you neglect to buy the warranty. GET APPLECARE. It's the best investment you can make to protect your hardware.

And finally if you think Apple products are overpriced for what you get, then don't buy them and don't waste your time trying to convince people who do like them that they're stupid for "wasting" their money. Some people think macs are the SVT-CL of laptops and some people think they're just Tara Labs power cables.

You certainly don't have to pay it. It has a 1 year warranty included but I have a 2 year wireless contract. Plus the extra warranty I bought covers accidents and spills..I decided to go with that since I have had accidents with my last two phones.

I love the functionality of my macbook, and as long as there is nothing else that can do the job with osx without hocus pocus voodo, I just have to live with paying for it even though the overall quality is quite crap...

Apples products are overpriced, it's a fact, live with it!

Ok, here ya go - how to make a ringtone from a song in iTunes:

DISCLAIMER - I don't know if this will work with songs purchased through iTunes store since I don't buy music from iTunes. I get most music from emusic.com

1. Under EDIT>Preferences>General tab>import settings make sure that you have it set to "Import settings using AAC encoder".

2. Find the song you want to use as a ringtone and play it. Watch for the time in the song that you want the ringtone sample to start. Note that time.

3. Right click on the song and select "Get Info"

4. Click on the Options tab. Click in the "Start time" and "Stop time" boxes. In the start time box enter the time in the song that you want the ringtone to start and put the stop time in the stop time box. I believe it must be 30 seconds or less for a ringtone. Click OK and close the box.

5. Now right click on the song again and select "Create AAC version" from the menu. It will create a copy of the song that consists only of the section that is between the Start time and Stop time that you indicated.

6. Right click on that snippet and copy. Then go to whatever folder you keep your ringtones in and paste the snippet.

7. Right click on the snippet that you just pasted and click "Rename". Then change the .m4a file extension to .m4r

8. Drag that ringtone into the ringtones section of iTunes from the folder. You now have a new ringtone to add to your phone.

9. Be sure to delete the snippet from the music section of iTunes and also go back into the original song options and remove the start time and end time so that it plays the whole song next time you want to listen to it.

That may sound complicated but once you've done it a couple of times its very fast.

Or I can drag and drop my favorite tunes from my PC to my phone, assign it as a ringtone and make my iPhone as easy to use as my iPod. This convoluted file managing system is why I finally dropped Palm after 12 years.

After 8 iPods in my household, sorry Apple. Honeymoon's over. You're not going to make me do a workaround to avoid buying my music twice.
