Is that a red dot? What brand of quad rails did you go with? I plan on adding some optics on top of the handle. I was talking to digme earlier about how I find it more comfortable to be looking through optics mounted on top of the handle as opposed to them set up on a flat top.

Hey BT, the sight is a Trijicon Reflex. It uses a tritium illuminated reticle. No batteries no fuss. I think my rails are Samson. Anyway, my upper is offered by STAG as a complete package sans optic and VFG.
EOTech and Aimpoint offer the red dot style sights. If I were to choose from them I will probably go with the AA powered EOTech models.

I like the heads up position of carry handle mounted sights also but most of my shooting is done from a bench so I need a good butt to cheek weld that a flattop allows.
I do agree to a point. But I must admit I bought my AR with one consideration that if the S hits the fan, I'm prepared. I remember the LA riots (it wasn't that long ago) and those Korean storekeepers didn't have any trouble sitting on their porches with their AR's. I do live with in a couple of miles of Detroit
I bought a 20" and now wish I bought the 16" M4, instant target acquisition in an urban environment and all.
I'd love to be a fly on the wall watching you in an "urban environment." I think it would be just about the most lulz-worthy thing ever. Lolocolyptic, even.
That's not an anti-gun thing, becasue really I'm not anti-gun. I just find the middle aged man who loves to fish / urban warfare dichotomy amusing. Tacti-cool indeed. Good word.

Ah right on. I think Brad's point with getting a flat top is that you have more options...which I agree with.
Yeah, basically because if you want a handle you can add a removable handle to a flattop. Plus, you can cut your hair into a flattop and win a gun/gunowner lookalike contest.

New Stag lower with 6 position stock and a new Rock River Arms M4 upper with 16" 1/9 twist, lightweight, chrome-lined barrel. YHM rear sight is on the way. Eventually want to get an Eotech.

I use a RRA M4 copy with an EOtech NV compatible N, foregrip, ambi-sling, Sure Fire flashlight, etc. Mine's for up close and personal shooting.
I've been kinda thinking about getting an upper with a carry handle scope like the ACOG and a cheek piece for my stock. Although, I have an FAL for longer distance. It's neat how accurate they are with irons!

Just curious, why are you you leaning towards the Eotech versus the Aimpoint?
Mainly cost. You can get the lower end EOtech for fairly cheap. Also, I can't say this from comparative experience but it seems like the eotech would offer quicker acquisition.

Aimpoints are nice, but the ones I messed with a few years back either had an off switch, or night vision without an off switch. One major advantage of the EOTech in my book is you can center the front post in the reticle and it will be fairly accurate if you don't quite have time to flip up your backup iron sight. I didn't take it out very far, but I could still take body shots with ease.
I thought that Aimpoints had some ridiculous life span per battery... like 8 years of continuous use or something...
Yes they do. You can leave em on and the battery will last for about four years.
One dot scope that turns out to be surprisingly good and easy to use is the Leupy Mk IV CQB. The small tube design may turn you off but it works great in field conditions.

Last night as I was showing the AR to my wife and I got the "So why do you need this?" question I simply stared back at her until she rolled her eyes and said "Yeah yeah for when the zombies attack I know I know."
Nope. I should get some, though. Unlike my M4, I kept my FAL 100% stock. Nothin' unique about it, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I've been thinking of changing the safety to something a little more thumb friendly.
