I’d gladly wear a Canadian tuxedo, than having to play a bass like that.

Are burst finishes out?

The whole wood thing is cringe. Wood PG’s are the worst, and the epitome of bad taste is wood PU covers. Now picture it all at once...
I’d gladly wear a Canadian tuxedo, than having to play a bass like that.
I own 3 basses. They are all burst, tort, rosewood. That's not by design, it just happened that way.
I have owned others, coffee table, solid finish etc but these 3 ended up staying. I have never bought a bass because of the finish. . . . but I do like a good burst, tort, rosewood combination, when it's done well. Looks like a bass to me.

Some people have been CONDEMNING burst finishes? Really? Remarkable.
I care so deeply about what others think of my choices that I don’t buy anything since whatever I get, someone’s not going to like it.

I personally hated burst finishes 40 years ago, now I like them.
Well, y’know a burst finish totally changes the sound. That’s why the old basses sound so much better.
It's almost as if no matter what the subject, *SOME* people don't like it.
Personally, it kinda makes me want to do/own/say/whatever that thing is just to annoy them further.
But as it turns out I discovered I can form my own opinions all by myself! Who knew?
for me it’s either Black or Bursts. Are there other colors available? How did I miss that? Oh well.
We have more options than ever. Bursts are just one of the options and I don't see them going away.
Bursts are good except as a person who does paintings having a colour fade to black is the ugliest and laziest way to do it. Honeyburst is gorgeous, tobaccoburst is gorgeous, sunburst is kinda ugly, there should be a lot more varieties of bursts but most of the time it’s colour that fades to black, way more interesting to have a gradient start at like yellow for example and fade into an equally light purple or something like this!
The into black stuff though doesn’t really have any colour relationships and whatever colour is put next to black loses its context of warm and cool, and loses a lot of its vibrancy, unless someone choicedly makes the black very warm or cool etc, which because spray pigments are spray pigments they almost never do

Hey, Fender's always ready to try something new, so maybe they should try this instead of the same old boring bursts they're famous for.
