Are Jazz Basses becoming less popular?

My view as I write this. Actually, the bass in the middle did seem to play better after I put the tort guard on Or maybe it's just that the flats (Lakland Joe Osborne Flats that have been on the bass for 18 years or so) are finally getting good.

There seems to be many more used Jazz Basses for sale on places like TB, eBay, Reverb, and Craigslist than what I recall seeing only a few years ago. However, I haven't really noticed an increase in other popular bass models. No, I can't quantify my findings, it's just an observation I've made.

Are people not wanting to keep them like they used to? Is this just all in my head?

Not the case where I live, there are more P basses or P Bass style basses on sale locally here, fewer jazz basses show up on the market, we've got too many P basses. Being that our two states are nearby, perhaps they should trade some.

PJ are more versatile, Jazz has his unique sound.

I for sure saw more guys on festivals etc on P’s than jazz basses before Covid. I think P basses are the mainstream bass sound at the moment but that can change. Like a previous poster mentioned a lot of ”tastemaker” bass players like Tim Lefebvre for example are more often seen with other basses. There are always trends in these things, and no one except bass players probably care haha.

I keep following this thread, because I go back and forth between my P's and J's. I can really dig the tone of either, it just depends on the gig, application, acoustics, etc. ...Also through a Stingray into the mix to spice things up once in a while. I purposely have two J's and two P's, each one is a different tonal footprint than the other. For example, 60's style J and a 70's style J....P bass with rounds and P bass with flats.

I’ll be perfectly happy to be the last holdout on the planet playing a Jazz bass (or its very-well-made variant)....

I just checked Google trends and there J and P appear to be equally popular! Aah the times we live in!
