Are Peterson strobe tuners worth the extra $$?

Another app fan here. The "Tuning for Piano" setting really changes the character of the bass to my ear. Still have a Schnobel on my board as I prefer the speed in a gig situation.

The Strobostomp HD is amazing.

I use it in monitor mode, so the tuner is always on and the button acts as a mute switch.

They seem to be ‘worth more’? I’ve been using a StroboClip, for home setups, tuning, etc., for many years... helps me get intonation ‘dead-on’... more precise than my other tuners. Not sure it’s noticeable (for most live settings) but keeps me happy!! When the clip broke (my fault) I found one can but replacement parts... that’s a + !

I bought a Peterson StroboClipHD headstock tuner and I don't like it because it never stops moving, so I don't know if I got tune, very frustrating for me.

Petersons are so sensitive they might not stop moving on a guitar. You just have to know that when the strobe’s barely moving you’re crazy in tune.

No. my $4 cheapo gets me there everytime. If I loose it, flush it down the toilet or crush it, who cares? (probably not a good idea to flush it)

The Peterson SSHD is worth the cost. You can change the display color, the backlighting is more than enough to see in any lighting condition, BFT settings are automatic when in the mode, picks up notes fast, and on and on...

Just get it and after about a 15 minute learning curve, you will not regret it.

hehe... welp- I’m no tuba expert- but was told it was a ‘tuba’... one of my (current) friends plays a euphonium- it is smaller than what I remember (my tuba) to be...

I've had a StroboPlus HD for years. I typically only use it for setup work, especially intonation - it's great for that!
For everyday playing, I use stompbox tuner, or clip-on.

For some I guess it is. If I was a tech and needed a super accurate bench tuner I would want one. I think I would go nuts playing with one on all the time since, invariably, not every note will be intonated perfectly. For me in the real world, the TC Electronic clip on tuner I have works just fine. Goes well below my low-B, pops right in my pocket and I haven't had a lick of trouble with it since I got it years ago.

I have an old Peterson Turbo Flip. It was expensive at $200. They don't make them anymore. I've been very happy with it and it's been the best tuner that I have ever owned.

I don't think that "perfect tuning" is actually possible. It depends on the strings and on the bass. Sometimes I get a string perfectly tuned at open and #12 but then at the first fret, it's off.

String intonation changes just about on a daily basis.

There just comes a point where we tune as best as we can and just have to live with it.

Peterson tuners are excellent!

Literally no one listening to your music is going to know or care whether you tuned your bass with a fancy strobe tuner or a Boss TU-2. But if you are looking for super accurate and can "tell a difference", knock yourself out. I don't begrudge anyone spending their money how they see fit.
