Are Squier guitars underrated?

As an owner of a Squier J-bass, I am more than satisfied with what I call my child of a bass. Easy to play and quite good sounding, the bass has done me well. Of course, as a fairly young bassist, I haven't gotten to play a whole lot of other basses but from what I've heard from friends and people I've played with, I've got a pretty nice guitar. Of course going into trying to answer this question, there's no question that there are definitely better basses but overall, I think Squier guitars get more hate than they deserve. Let me know what you think.

I think many of them are great value for the money. I don't think they are underrated, at least not here. Most people on talkbass seem to like them and speak highly of them. Many pros play them on the road.

I noodled on one in a store recently and was impressed by how solid it was overall. I'd never look down my nose at one.

I'm with you. Havent been able to buy a Fender lately cause I keep finding Squiers that are too good! I own 2 now, one modified one stock. I will say they usually need a little work, but all easy fixes for big savings. Rock on!

"Underrated" is a meaningless term that wants to look thoughtful. Every bass is underrated or overrated, depending on who's doing the "rating". To me, Squiers are perfectly fine basses.

Their guitars are OK, but TBH their basses are even better.

yes, by the general population, by most singers, by most guitarists, by most bassists, by very few TB members, by most drummers, etc., etc, they are underrated.

They've come a long way over the years. A pal loves his 5-string and doesn't see the need to get anything else. Squier can be the one and only you get, or the gateway drug.

Squiere is exactly what you get for that money and that is why it is made for. Instrument for everyone.

I think they are generally under rated.
A lot depends on who is doing the rating and what they expect/want.
I will say that over the years their quality has gotten better and more consistent.

I played a Squire Tele not too long ago that was PFG. Not sure what line it was from, but impressive none the less. It was every bit as good as my ole American Standard.

Most demerits of Squiers are because the name is misspelled frequently.

I had a Vintage Modified Squier Jazz I purchased a few years ago as a back up bass and to play in church youth praise band. It was a really nice instrument. The only thing I did was replace the cheap pot metal bridge with a Fender 70s re-issue. Direct drop in.

That's a new one... I have a Classic Vibe P-Bass 60's and it is very close to the real thing (being Fender). I would say, they are appreciated here, but I'm not sure how they are perceived by other band members/recording engineers/producers and so on, just do like MonoNeo and put a sock on the headstock and all will be good.

I think most of us here understand how great they are - especially the new ones, but perhaps in general to most they are still a "Starter Bass". Too bad. I scored one of the last of the 5-string P-Basses and it is really top quality. A Fodera owner came by and was totally impressed with it.
