I have an '85 (November 15) Spoiler. It's black. I love the spoiler in all black! I ordered it new and have been gigging with it since.
On an early gig there was a bar fight and a huge dude was knocked over right on top of the bass crushing the guitar stand, cracked the top where the jack is, headstock hit a cymbol taking a nice chunk out of it and a few dents in the back. All four strings were 1/2 step flat but still in tune with itself.
Alembic needed $900 to fix it so I had a local luthier do it for a fraction of that. It has served me well for 20+ years. Always cuts through, I always have always gotten possitive coments from other players and band members on the sound of the old girl. I think it plays better now than it did new.
I'll take some pics and post them. There is already one in the thread about high end basses doing regular gigs, but I'm in the picture too. Sorry.
