Are You A Brand Loyalist?

I have 4 brands that I fanboy pretty hard. Lakland for basses, Reverend for guitar, Genzler for bass amps, and MJC Ironworks strings roundwound bass strings.

I started out thinking Fender was THE one.
I bonked around on MIM guitars & basses for a while & then...

the realization hit that I didn't need to only shop in the ONE local musical instrument store & pawn shops, so off I went to GC & lo & behold Sam Ash was right next door
soon after I had a G&L bass & it blew away any Fender I'd owned

then I got a G&L guitar, which also blew away my Strat

I'm a supporter of G&L, but this time around I wanted to go cheap, so I got two pawn shop Ibanez basses when I re-grouped.
Some days I wish I'd just gotten one G&L L-2000 Tribute.

Basses : I have a Kiesel, a Fender, A Frankenbass, an Ibanez, a Rickenbacker, a Dingwall, and a Warwick bass right now. I have previously owned Yamahas, a Larrivee electric bass, a Schecter and a Washburn.

Strings: currently using Dingwall, Ken Smith, D'Addario and Dean Markley. Have also used Rotosound, Ernie Ball, Warwick, DR and Elixir.

Amps: I have a Peavey-era Trace Elliot combo and have previously owned "real" Trace Elliot, Laney, Fender and Line 6 amps.

Effects: Currently using Darkglass and Line 6, previously used Ibanez and Boss

Cables: currently using Monster, Mogami and Planet Waves

Straps: Planet Waves, Levys...

So...

I'm gonna say no.

Me too - and if I like them, I'm loyal; out of sheer selfishness. I want them to make more awesome gear for me. :D

Examples:
Amps+Cabs: Ampeg only
Mics: Sennheiser only *
Cables: Cordial only
Guitars: Yamaha only
Straps: Levy
4001: Rickenbacker (no copies)
Cases: Thon
Tubes: JJ
Violin maintenance: loyal to my local luthier

*) can't afford backup mic's, yet, but already saving money ^^

Not really. I played a great American Pro Jazz a week back that I would have loved to take home. Also been considering the ltd edition American Standard Precision bass that has hung on the store racks forever.

I'm not a G&L purist, but it just so happens that they build what I really like and resale is pretty affordable. :)

Not really .... I generally like what feels good and sounds good.. I guess the closest thing to brand loyalty I have had has been with my amps.. Out of the 11 amps I have owned since I started playing.. 6 of therm have been Genz .. well .. 5 Genz and one Genzler.. and I still have the MG800 which will probably be with me from here on out.. annd the SL900 .. which I may sell.. As far as basses go though.. I like what feels good and sounds good to me. I am partial to Lakland and Peavey.. so far anyway..

I like Fender J Basses, a lot! First bass that felt right and sounded right. But it could just as well been a Peavey I guess. I love the look of Fender amps, the grill cloth on the Rumble cab reminds me of a BandMaster I used to have. I am biased toward Fender I guess. I think their guitars and basses are a very pleasing blend of form and function. After this bit of self introspection I think I am going to try to play some other basses and see what's out there. I liked my SVT a lot too. I would like a P Bass with flats tho. Oh no, GAS attack.

With the advent of the 2013 and 2017 Gibson EB lines, I am now.

For acoustic guitars, I've been a Gibson fanboy for awhile, but not so much their basses. With the pickups in these new ones, it just has what I want. So, guitar, bass and ukulele (soon, I hope. I'm trolling eBay), I'm currently all in for Gibson.

Amps, I like my carvin bx500 and my fender rumble. Next, though, I'll probably try a mesa subway.

at one point, half my pedalboard and my entire amplification was aguilar.
I do like their stuff a lot, but right now i swapped all the pedals for other brands and i am saving money to replace my cabs with barefaced ones.
Other than that, I happen to own an Ibanez guitar and two basses, but no loyality there, more coincidence.

I have four Birdsongs - the basses I have that aren't predate my 2006 connection to Birdsong. One of those is a Breedlove, so when it came time to buy an acoustic guitar for my daughter, we went Breedlove.

Not so much with amps. I had a time when my entire pedalboard was MXR (except the tuner), but that only lasted about 6 months.

For strings, I stick with a single brand because they are cheap.

I tried a different brand that cost a little more and though they were great until they went completely dead after a month.

In 25 years of playing bass I have never played a G&L. Some day......
