To some degree, I am a brand loyalist, I have always loved Fenders/Squiers, but that's really only a preference. I will always be open to trying something new, and I do indeed have an interest and/or desire for other brands. I would love to get another Gibson EB3L like the one I had, for example, and I would like to try a T-bird (Gibson or Epiphone). And that's only two that I have considered as possibilities. I'd pretty much be open to at least try any brand, but I doubt that I'll ever lose interest in Fenders/Squiers.

To clarify a bit on my earlier post, I don't completely ignore brands. When I first start shopping for something I'll try out anything new I can get my hands on. But I tend to start with the brands that have shown themselves to fit my needs in the past. So I'll shop Gibson, Fender, and maybe Peavey first. But that's about the extent of anything resembling loyalty I have. I will consider anything - including so-called "budget" lines or models - to find that elusive sound I'm hunting for on that foray. As a result I've come home with a few things that are never going to win a popularity contest or get me bragging rights with the brand snobs and self-proclaimed "connoisseurs of fine basses."

And I'm perfectly good with that. My money - my choice.

The complete opposite actually. I was really happy with my Sandberg bass, wanted a modern P-bass and decided to go with something else (Maruszczyk) instead because I felt like trying out something new. I bet a Sandberg California VM 5 would have been perfectly fine but if I have the opportunity to try out something new then why not?

My brand loyalties are a little peculiar. I'm more shape loyal and ergos loyal. I don't get along with Fender ergos near as well as I get along with Thunderbird and other Gibson style ergos. Brand is less important. I'm also loyal to Acoustic Control amps, mostly because I like how they sound (and how they look on stage.) Plus, some old Acoustic Control equipment always seemed to turn up right when I was looking for that specific kind of equipment. And was available for cheap. I also have a Carvin amp, so not that much brand loyalty. Plus, the equipment in the Basement of Bad Ideas is a random combination of stuff. Same with pedals. I don't really care.

I would say that I avoid certain brands, but even that's not quite true.

I do love Thunderbirds, though.

I admit to liking American Fender Jazz and Precision basses (which are all I own at the moment) but I would have no problem adding another company to the herd (especially a Ric 4003).

Other equipment is up for grabs.

I'll try out different brands and if they work they work. So far, it's Fender for bass and GK for amplification. I don't have the luxury to really consider otherwise at the moment.

Definitely Fender (and by association G&L and MusicMan) for me - love the look, sound, feel and history of the whole thing. It's probably like an allegiance to a particular car or motorcycle brand if that was my thing.

I'm definitely a Spector guy, however I do appreciate other brands such as Wal, Warwick, Pedulla Fender, etc...

As for cabs, I like Aguilar. No real preference for amps. Demeter for preamps.

To an extent, yes. I have some go-to brands when I'm in the market for something, and I'll check their stuff out first. But it if doesn't cut it, the name doesn't mean anything. I'll rock whatever gets the sound in my head.
