If you play fretted and fretless you can't really be a one-bass person I suppose.
I do spend about 90% of the time playing my L2500 Tribute bc it's so versatile, but the basslines to some of my band's original songs were composed using fretless so they just don't have the same vibe without it.
Different basses have different tones so I suppose it depends on your needs. Some folks can get everything they need out of a P-Bass or Jazz Bass. I only have 3 basses at this time and that's the most I've owned at one time in my 31+ years of playing.
