Are you a one bass guy, or not?

For clarification, do you have a bass that you use for basically every gig, or not? Personally, I do, I only have 1 bass, but I play Punk, so...go figure, right? If you don't (or do), why?

If there is room on the stage and it's not in outdoors/sandy conditions I bring my Alembic Series 1.

Less optimal/crowded conditions? I bring the Fender Jazz Elite or a P bass.

All of my basses are different of distinguishable in some way and I have used them for different projects. It would be a tall order to pick only one as a 'desert island' bass.

Fretted four (with hipshot D-tuner), fretted five, and a fretless four. The fretted four is getting the most gigs right now. It covers 99.9% of the music the band plays with the D-tuner. Only use one at a time.

Yes. I own 2 basses and use the same one on every gig. My Sadowsky does every gig from blues to rock, through Reggae, pop and acoustic. I use the same amp but the number of cabs varies depending on the volume required and the size of the room.

I usually practice on the same one, a Fender American Honeyburst Special. I have round wounds on it and keeps my fingertip callouses in play. I gig with one of my other Fenders set up with flats, and/or a Rickenbacker. Which one I chose is determined by my mood.

I'm lucky enough to have two Rickenbacker 4003's. Perfect for the stuff I play. Of the two I certainly have a number 1, but they are basically identical except the colour. So based on that I'd say I am and one bass guy, kinda.

I wish I could be. my main band plays such a variety of music, I need multiple basses all in different tunings. I usually take three to a gig.

The BFR StingRay fretless. I guess it's not that expensive compared to custom builds and boutique brands that some folks buy, but it's expensive on my budget :-/

Definitely not a one bass guy. Mostly because I enjoy variety and have the means to enjoy some variety. For me, that means somewhere between 6-8 basses that are all unique.

Pretty much.

While I do own a couple of basses I've always had a favorite which get by far most of my attention.

This is my current #1, a 5 string Ibanez GSRM25 Mikro bass with the 2 stock J pickups rewired in series directly to the output jack socket, and tuned in F# to D, like the 5 lowest strings of an 8 string guitar, or 2 half steps above standard E tuning:

Fills all my needs currently, but if I need to lay down some more traditional bass I use my 4 string P/J Mikro with a set of EMG Geezer Butler pickups installed, tuned in E standard tuning.

I have owned some basses in the 1000$ range, but to me these cheap Mikros sound as great as any of those after the mods I have done on them, and beat them all in playability.

If I were a studio musician or cover artist it might had been different, but as an artist who does original stuff exclusively I can get away with just 1 great signature tone.

I prefer the sense of familiarity you get from concentrating on one bass, it comes to feel like home over time.

I rotate between my two 5-stringers for gigs (cover band). If I'm just jamming or playing with an original band I tend to use one of my three 4-stringers. If I'm playing at home just for fun, I'll play whatever bass I want the sound for as they are all different.
