The pad on the Epifanis is on 50% or "normal" so there's some level of attenuation...there is no tweeter boost. The Acmes are at -1. Probably doesn't matter as I use a Broughton HPF/LPF set at 40 hz / 5 khz at the front-end of my signal chain...highly recommended!

I wonder whether I should disconnect the tweeter or take this approach. I don't spend a ton of time down there, but I do tune my 5th string as low as G sometimes, so I'd be setting a lower limit very low (if at all) to try and preserve some of that fundamental.

I know Broughton (https://www.broughtonaudio.com/product-page/low-high-pass-filter) makes one. Haven't really done much searching, because I don't play out much anymore.

Depends on where the crossover splits the frequencies & what type of driver it is.
Horn tweeters are ok, but I have to suffice with them, because I play with some much O/D I'd blow a piezo tweeter in seconds, & I don't mean figuratively.

That' s why I use a cab that has no crossover.

The Speaker gets a fullrange signal and the tweeter is protected with a HPF.

When I use overdriven sounds, I turn the tweeter down (virtually off)

The speaker still produces enough high freqs for that.

When I go with all clean sounds I can put a little bit of extra cream on the cake.

Can be cool in places that swallow too much "presence" (I can hear myself better on stage that way)

Filter seems more appropriate to me, as well.

The inductance of the woofer itself makes for a first order low pass filter, so in the system view there is arguably a full crossover in cabs like that. When you design an external solution you have to factor that initial filtering in, which gets complicated pretty fast.

In both cases the loudspeaker (woofer) produces only low content and the tweeter only high content.

That' s what I call a "real" crossover.

But that is that is my "hairsplitting" me. (the one who plays stainless steel rounds )

When you seperate woofer and tweeter (into 2 cabs),

you will have one cab with a HPF and one cab with a LPF.

And of course the pros will still call it a crossover.
