Are you a Tweeter Lover?

Interested in the use of Tweeters in bass cabinets, so thought I would run a poll, be interested to see what you all do...

Depends on what it is you're playing and do you need to hear some 'crunch' or 'clank'. Especially if you're playing prog authentically. A bar crowd really wouldn't care or know, but if you're in some type of prog tribute band then it's a bit important to have an authentic sound.

Never loved the tweeter-less cabs I've tried (apart from the great PJB piranha. Yet still prefer my trusty Goliath III...)

I close the tweeter just when using HEAVY distorions/fuzz.

hate it. I want cabs that defeat the tweeter or omit it entirely and let the highs through to the main driver. I don't like when I have to turn the tweeter down and just loose that treble range totally.

I generally turn it off; if there's no attenuator, I disable it.

I really like the modern cabinets that have nice HF speakers or even big pa-style horns, I appreciate the aggression and air they can add to a tone. Not the standard, tiny, square, proper tweeters though. Every time I hear those they just sound like fizz.

I play primarily with a pick. I turn it off the tweeter always. Unless you want to hear that nasty pick sound....click, click, click. I know, been breaking in the fingers slowly.

I use to play through a Peavey 1820 cab. 1x18 / 2x10 loaded. No tweeter. Guess Peavey figured the 10s would be enough cover the high end.

I currently use GK, 2x10s, with tweeter. And I have yet to find I really need the tweeter.

So for now, the answer is no.

I'm building a fearful 12/6. Not a 12/6/1. I use 2 GK neo 112s now. One has the tweet off, the other has it down quite a bit. I play mostly funk and soul, 99% fingerstyle. For what I'm doing, tweeters aren't my friend. That's just me...

As usual, it just depends. Being mostly a fretless player who plays very little rock music, I find that my pitch acuity is increased dramatically by having a tweeter. So everytning I've owned for the last 15 years has had one.

But I'm currently setting up to build a tube rig that will probably just be a straight up 2 X 15 format. I have a little 2 X 4 top box I could add if that rig ever makes it out of the shed, I guess.

I will enable them as much as needed. I prefer a midrange for bass though.

On my ampeg cabs I usually attenuated them partially, the 410HE's are plenty clear and bright without them.

On my GK MB212 I leave it off. That thing has PLENTY of snap in the upper frequencies and I find the tweeter is a little too shrill.

I love my jbl tweeters. Very much dislike for plastic piezo tweeters.

Same. The cabinet I just purchased has a JBL, and it's the first time I've ever decided that the tweeter can stay in the mix.

Only exception is the Fearless type of cabinet which seems to integrate its use well

I play ampless most of the time, so no tweeters on stage, but in the PA, sure. The other 20% of the time I play through my own custom built cabs, in which I don't use tweeters. Nothing worse than a cabinet with a tweeter and a crossover that's too low - that combo never gives me what I want.

That being said, my swr 12 stack doesn't have any tweeter and sounds awesome.

I put it as high as I can get it without

• hearing it when I'm not playing
• getting bad tone

My fender 810 has a tweeter, but it hisses at full (I run a 1001rbII), so I usually have it set about 1/3 at louder shows, and 1/2 at quieter shows.
