hi, I already have the precise bass and it's a really good JB (I have one, 1977), and I just got the professional bass, 1976, totally natural, ash body (2 pieces) and maple neck, that's beautiful, It just nead a big restoration.

A Wedge, how odd.
The only [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] that I can find shows blade p/ups & tailpiece tuners, but the tarnishing on the brassware & the worn/faded gold on the tuners suggest it's been around a while.
Maybe they continued production later? Japanese manufacturers have always been a law unto themselves - "Specification may change without notice" is a promise, not a threat.

That looks like an IGB headstock? Looks like its been used a good bit. Very nice though.
I took another pic of my Elite II because I got some awesome strings today for it. Optima Gold strings, 24K Gold coated. They look and sound great!

That is a FABULOUS example of an Elite II! Those Optima Golds really do go well with that bass. I would LOVE to try the combo of those strings on that bass.

I got to try out an Aria IGB-35 and SB40 active yeterday.
First the IGB - light, fast neck, good overall quality, action a bit off, a few sharp frets but otherwise a decent active bass for a good price (£180).
SB - A bit lighter than the IGB, thin neck too, build quality on this one was quite good; set-up well, a few little imperfections but overall an impressive bass for £230. As this one was the active there was a noticeble amount of grunt over the passive version which I liked.
I'd certainly consider buying the SB40A.

Thats the 40th Anniversary one (40th anniversary of Aria not the SB) It was only produced in 1996. I've never seen a pic of one.

I don't think thats a 40A, It looks like a 380 without the flame maple veneer.
I don't like the looks of it, modern Aria logo, unusually tapered headstock. The body looks strange also. :scowl:

Oops, my bad. Seems they've reused the Sb-40 title. That bass appears to be a stripped down 380, which now seems to be gone, along with the 303.
Yeah, not a fan of the newer SBs either. They look like imposters. :scowl: I don't know why they had to go fix something that wasn't broken with the original design. The actual SB Re-Issue models are pretty good, though.
Well here is my SB, bought from new in 1991 and still my number 1 bass of choice. When bought it was for sale as an 'Aria Pro II Vintage SB'. Don't know if this is its correct name, this doesn't appear to be listed on the excellent SB website;

From the pix on the above website it would appear to be an SB Elite II, however the site states that these were only in production until 1988, mine was definately made in 1991 as I still have the factory setup check list card which came with the bass.
Any ideas on a definite model? For info it is passive, no model number on truss cover which is plain brass, at least it was until I had the name engraved on it (What are you telling me you don't name your basses???!!!??)

It's just as you have it in your signature. An SB Elite II, it looks like a red version of mine. Very very nice bass!
Its possible that it was in a warehouse or store until '91. Mine still has the tags too.
FYI, none of the SB's had the model ingraved on them. Mine has a blank brass truss rod cover too and no serial number.
