What happened to numbers? This is the only TB club I belong to and we have no numbers? By my count ( no pic no bass ) I think I am number 20. I am all the way back on page 6 I think.

By the way I have seen some really beautiful basses in this thread...... Keep em coming !!!!!!

Roger Alacantra.....Watched your video on Pocket where you trying out the IGB and the Cliff Burton model. Loved the tone out of the IGB but you didnt seem impressed with the CB. I thought it sounded a lot like my Elite II which honestly I dont use much with the band as I dont think the tone really "fits" metal. ( I know I just said that the CB doesnt have a metal sound.....so shoot me .) Now that IGB on the other hand I like that tone!!!!!

My question to you ( or any one else who has an answer) is I am looking for pups that have that tone but yet fit my Elite II.

Thanks again and keep the those SB's coming!!!!!!!!

Honestly I think this is better without numbers. People actually contribute in this "club thread" rather than just popping in for a number. There are many regular posters in this thread and I love that about it. It's probably one of the few places I post in TB. I normally hang out on HCBF.
I'm subscribed to this thread aswell. :D

Now, about the Elite II not fitting metal. I don't really get that. I have an Elite II and it works great for metal. You just need to dial it in right. ;)

Where can I find this video you talk of?

It sounds great! Like a classic SB but with more range. It was much cheaper to put together than a new SB-CB, too. :smug: I usually use a Dunlop MXR-80 DI (Similar to a SansAmp) which also widens the tonal range. Plays great, too!

Cool! I might have to see about putting an Alembic pickup in an SB in the future. Probably a parts one, I wouldn't butcher a good SB. :smug:

I have some crazy idea in my head lately about the japanese CB. You know that bridge you sent me... well... I'm thinking about getting the gold plating stripped, refinished in black. (I think it would have to be powdercoated?) And new saddles made up. Finally I would get it put on the CB with teh recess and everything.

It's a bit crazy... but just might be cool, albeit expensive!

That sounds like it'll look really good. So anyway I've decided that I am going to have to invest in some nice pickups for mine and I am going to install them myself. Maybe emgs, like alembic said, but I'm thinking of putting in a les paul switch and making the volume/tone for each pickup a push pull. Either way i am going to have fun with it. Should be a great beginner project.

Well Brian I guess I should have said it doesnt fit my metal tone which is more like IGB sound.......Either that or the pups are just too damn old.....although it does a very nice job at home jamming to Duran Duran LOL!!!!

I guess what I am looking for is something more brighter, more crunchier, more for want of a better term..... modern.

I have heard mention of EMGs that fit these basses...what model pup is that?

Also Roger my apologies on misspelling your last name..... In my defense I was pretty tired when I wrote that last post.

Hmm... I've seen SB's with EMG's and personally I think it ruins the look and you won't have those cool built in thumbrests anymore.
Anyways, if you do want to change them out let me know, I may be interested in your original SB pickups as spares.

Why don't you try something like a sansamp. Alembic83 said above he has one and it sounds good with the SB. :)
That's gotta have a give modern tone for sure.

Its just that I want to use this bass out with the band more and I cant seem to get my "sound" out of it. The thing plays like a dream but the tone..... its just not for me. I love it when other players have that sound though, like Cliff Burton or John Taylor.

When it comes to looks....( gonna get shot with this one ) I could deff see this bass with a pair of humbuckers with exposed poles! ( BTW never occurred to me before, is there a proper name for pickups you can see the poles on?)

Sorry just real think that would be hot.

Yeah, why not play around with parts to make your 'dream' bass, eh? I suppose an easier/cheaper way could be to buy yourself a new gold Gotoh bridge (I forgot the model name they use on the new SB-1000s, but they aren't too expensive)
and just take those gold saddles to match with the black base of the bridge. I know you like the old bridge design, though...Then throw on some gold Gotoh tuners and you've got a pretty close approximation of a Black n Gold! Maybe the next time I come across an SB-1000CB I will do that...whenever that may be. ;) Seems Aria could have easily done that themselves, but I'm just happy they made the SB-1000CB in the first place, even if I am too picky. :D

I've had it for several years now. It was my primary bass for a while, until I got my Geddy. Everything is as I got it except the volume/tone knobs.

EDIT: Damn I gotta run. Didn't have time to upload the pics properly.

Looks to be an SB-900 to me, but the SB-R80 is a very similar model.
Out of the two I believe the SB-900 is the only one listed as coming in a black finish.

Cool. Thanks for the info Basstovsky. The only time I tried to have it looked at I took it to Guitar Center and the prick working there wouldn't even look at it. I just told him what brand it was and he passed it off as "a cheap beginner bass." Don't you just loooove Guitar Center?!

Well I paid $400 for it used with a semi-hardshell case. It was on consignment at a local music store. After reading some reviews it sounds like I got a pretty good deal. I still love that bass and now this thread is making me want to take it out to the gig tonight. Hmmmm....

The Elite II had/has stacked volume/tone knobs and two switches... and I beleive they were solid colors (couldn't see the stripes in middle).
Back in the day I had an SB-90... one PU and was active. It had a selector switch (maybe that's one of the knobs. It's hard to see in the pics but one of the little things could be a light???
