Reposting parts of this from the main Basses forum, cause my thread has just disappeared there with no responses. My new (err, ebay, I think it's mid 90's, haven't seen a serial # yet) Aria Pro II Avante has some several problems with the electronics, can anyone give advice? The main problem is that when I turn up the treble knob, I get loads of hiss through the amp, but the character of the tone barely seems to gain any extra treble. I'm playing with it all the way down now. Reposted:
Was told today by a repair shop that to have the electronics worked on i'd need to gut the guitar and send the electronics off to a company Aria recommends. Does anyone have any experience doing this? I want to eliminate the treble hiss, but I don't know the source of it. Another thing is that the volume of the bass is very low. I have a fender rumble 100 combo and I have to turn it up past 12 o'clock to play at a good practicing volume (not that loud). That's with the active switch on the amp engaged, and I put a new 9v in the bass first thing when I got it. By contrast my p-bass would be shaking the room at that volume setting.
Summary of other problems:
Input jack crackles and can lose connection
Pointing the guitar in different directions and adjusting my position greatly affects ambient hum coming through the amp
Radio signals come through amp occassionally, clearly, with bass plugged in.
I know one thing I need to have done is getting the electronics cavity covered in that special interference blocking paint..Please give me recommendations though. I've never had to have any extensive work done on a bass. I just want to ensure a clean sound.
