Aria Sinsonido Portable Bass

I'm glad that Soloette is considering a 5/6 string model, this way us ERB players get to get in on all the fun. These are headless basses so I like 'em a lot and the Sinsinido bangs hard! If the Soloette ERB's ARE released in the future or offered as a custom , I understand they will have wood necks which is fine with me and it's cost effective too. Thanks Vanessa for chiming in.

Interesting - so, every individual will need to send in unique measurements? That spooks me.

I haven't heard back from them on what a graphite replacement might cost. Would you know?

When dealing in replacement necks Moses just likes to be accurate. He doesn't necessarily NEED everyone's measurements, but it's nice to have them when you don't have the instrument in your hands. He will make the necks to the standard Sinsonido specs and send them out; however, this might result in more work for you or your favorite luthier if your pocket is just a bit different. He wants to make a good product that is as close to exact as possible. I don't know if he would ask every single person for exact specs with every Sinsonido replacement although it would be nice. :hyper:

I don't know what the neck would cost. I'm sorry but you'll have to wait to hear from him on that.:(

Looking at the body of the prototype, what jumps out at me again is - the lines. This is a very subjective thing. But, there's already a precedent for a Steinberger with boxey, harp lines. Why not make that mini body with more rounded lines, somewhat following the outline of the bars, only obviously much, much smaller.

I also don't see the head. Are those strings just running through the very tip of the neck without a small head block?

Well, the short answer to the reason why we don't change the body design is because we already have jigs built that fit this design. We are only three people and building jigs takes a while when we you have a stack of orders to fill. We can be flexible about the black frame bouts, but the body will more than likely stay the same. I do understand what you mean by a smoother, more rounded look and it would be awesome. We just might do it one of these days.

There isn't a head on the prototype because it is a Steinberger neck. The final product will have our headstock on it. Our headstock has holes for using ball end strings while the neck on the prototype has slots that hold the big ball end strings in place. This particular neck on the prototype has been discontinued; therefore, we would not offer that neck again.

Hi Vanessa,

The pickups on the prototype new bass look to be in a P/J configuration. I can't see the bridge well enough to know whether there will also be the Soloette type pickup there, but I guess this is so. Now, the character of the Sinsonido sound comes from your unique pickups: is it the plan to build a bass which aims to provide a different range of tones?

The bass that I have pictured does not have our pickup on it, and that is a challenge that we are facing. We have built another bass that does use our pickup only that would be priced lower than a bass with three EMGs. We face many challenges fitting parts on the little SoloEtte body; therefore, we are discussing bridge options that would accept our pickup as well as EMGs for a range of tones. :)

I replaced the preamp board in mine. In order to do that, the knobs had to come off. They just slide off the pots' shaft. The pot has knurled shafts that the plastic knobs slide onto.

Since you replaced the preamp board, have you seen what the whole works looks like? As in, what the condensers look like and how they are placed in the bridge?

Bottom line - does anyone know if it would be feasible to add more condensers? I'm thinking of one under every string.

The goal would be to even out the volume of each string. Right now, that aspect of the bass is acceptable but not excellent.

Any comments or info anyone?

The preamp board in the cavity has two shielded cables from each mic soldered to it. The wires come into the cavity via holes and go into the lipstick tube that sits on the bridge. I did not dismantle the lipstick tube so I don't know what it looks like in there. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Since the jack is a stereo jack and there are two separate preamps for each pickup, I assume by cupping each headphone piece separately to your ear you could hear which strings are stronger for which pickup. I'm going to try this soon; tell me what you find out as well, assuming you wouldn't mind trying this (or maybe already know the answer).

I'm not sure how to do what you are saying yet, but ...

As far as unevenness, my bass is this way:

- A string strongest throughout the board
- E string - usually strong, but occasionally not depending on where I fret
- D - not very strong
- G - least - really could use some goosing

Does anyone else out ther hear the unevenness with their bass?

As I have said, it's not fatal, but it would be a better bass if this could be adjusted.

So, there's actually a discrete preamp for each condenser? - wow.

What I meant is that is there the same unevenness if you listen to only the right side on the headphones vs the left side only? Each pickup feed it's own preamp, which then feeds the left and right headphone separately. This could give you a clue as to where the condensers are in the pickup tube (or, maybe Vanessa could tell us this....or, maybe not, if it's proprietary:D )

I'm going to listen to mine later today and report back.

Gee, you know I would have never thought that this post would ever be SIX pages long!:hyper: :bassist:
