Aria Sinsonido Portable Bass

So, I have no idea how to reach Aria USA via e-mail, but the Soloette company had an e-mail address, so I sent them a note telling them about our enthusiasm here.

I got a prompt and pleasant response from the company, and they shared that there is a bass in development. Not ready for prime time yet, but in development.

It would be cool to have a *high-end* option for the Sinsonido, although I won't be able to afford it. :bawl:

Nice work, Frank. I liked their site (nice and simple, like their instruments), but no mention of the bass! Perhaps the Aria one is the only one available. Did you notice the reference to a hard case for the the g****r?

I think mine is a Mark I? The body is certainly different to most I've seen (nicer too :D ), and the volume and tone pots are easier to get too as a result.

I remember seeing that one-piece metal frame on the E string side when I ordered the bass. When I got the bass, I noticed that that one piece metal had turned into two pieces. I don't remember if the body didn't have the "flanges" like the current one.

Mine has a one-piece frame on the E side, but also has wooden "flanges". Seems there are several variations. I take your point about the clean look of the model you have, Derren, but I'd assumed the different body shape was to protect the knobs on the pots.

Got a fretless S'o and am very impressed with value for $. With some Thomastic Jazz flats on it and with adjustments to string height and neck relief, its a great practice tool when you are out of town (I am away right now and had no trouble getting into overhead bins on the planes I took). I may also use it on a regular jazz gig where portability counts. Will try with a Fishman preamp I have to see if compression will help the sound. Haven't yet tried the metal/rubber shape makers and probably never will.

Some tape wrapped strings could be a good addition, but I would need to work on the nut.

If you ever start gigging with it, please post here. We'd love to hear. I'm gigging successfully with mine.

Let us know if you try with a Fishman. I was thinking along those lines myself.

I don't use the bars, either. No need in my book.

Okay, here's the deal. I'm at work, I'm bored, so I decided to design my own Sinsonido bass :D

You'll notice, it's woefully out of scale, but that's not the point. It's got a fretless neck (only because I couldn't be bothered drawing them in!), it's a six string :bassist: and I thought you could use something like a Steinberger style bridge to keep the body short, and also allow you to have a groovy pikup of you're own chosing.

Okay, it's naff, but it killed half an hour :eyebrow:

Here's a reply from SoloEtte about cases.

"We don't have a hard case for a bass. The hard case we use for the SoloEtte is actually a gun case. We couldn't find a small enough "guitar" case for our design, but a disassembling rifle case works well. I would suggest hitting some sporting goods stores and looking at their full rifle cases. The one we use is 36" long, but a full rifle case will probably be about 56" long. They will be slim, and hopefully have an extra layer of padding (like ours) so you can put the frames underneath the instrument. Plano makes our cases, and they have lots of styles out there. They are also really easy to find. Please feel free to email us anytime you have questions or comments."

Thanks.

We need to find a 42 inch rifle case. I have seen that size for
small rifle cases. That would fit our bass well I believe.

So far, the only 42 inch cases I have found have been around $200.

Homier has a cheap 53", but I think that's too long.

If anyone finds leads, please post.

Interesting that the colour is an option on the guitar though..maybe bass will follow. Talking to SoloEtte it seems they didn't really know about bass players liking the instrument, and liking it as a main bass rather than just a convenience for travelling. In fact, perhaps Aria did the design work to produce the current bass? SoloEtte seem keen to have feedback though.
