I recently purchased and Aries Bolvidae 5 (spelling?) from GC....Its awesome, and beautifully built...but in seaching the forums here it seems I may have overpaid for it $2300 was my cost

What is market for these used? its 9 piece neck Aries pickups and preamp and increadable walnut body with spalted maple top... Conflicted as I don't want to have too much money in the bass and could return it for a few more days...but I really like it alot... and it seems a lot nicer than many of the other $2300 offerings out there..

thanks guys I got GC to refund me $650 based on previous ebay sales so I got the bass for $1600 plus tax which is still a tad more than some of the auctions but it is a beautiful 9 peice neck, walnut, spalted maple sandwich that plays and sounds bad ass...so for $1600 how could you loose?

There's one Ebay store that has a shpiel about how they bought all the remaining inventory of a NY bass shop, and over the last six months or so they've sold three Bovidaes (that I've seen anyway). They went for peanuts, but I think one was missing all the electronics, and another had some notable repairs.

I was very tempted to buy one of them, but I just couldn't get past the look of the top horn. :)

really? I think top horn is cool kind of like sea horse or something...I talked to the guy at the place that bought out the bass loft...apparenlty these start at $6000 and with all the options he figured mine had about a $10,000 list price...insane...so I guess even though they have the worlds worst resale as an unkown commodity here in the states, I still did OK at $1600....sounds great, plays great and so utterly unique that I am sure I am the only guy in town to have one so hey how could you lose?

The store that probably blew them out was Joey G's Music- they had a bunch of very nice high-end basses including a lot of Aries basses. They were a bit overpriced and didn't want to come down much on one when I asked years back.

I bought one of the ones off ebay a few months back. It was a four string Bovidae. BEAUTIFUL bass! It had a chip missing off the tip of the lower horn. It was probably one quarter inch by about one half inch of the tip was missing. I picked it up for $870 shipped if I recall correctly. Resale on these are terrible. I think it's mostly because no one really knows about them or has any experience with them. Way awesome bass. I just wasn't real keen on the pickups (it was an older one with EMGs, not the new Aries brand pickups), that and my need for cash were the only two reasons I sold it.

Intresting...I wish this one had been a four as I more of a four string guy but it is one of the few fives I have been able to get around on....(I have the hands of a seven year old girl TINY!) I saw your when I did a search, and I would think EMG's wouldn't be the best combo in this bass..(though I like EMG's) I like the Aries Pickups//preamps only wish they were a bit hotter in terms of volume
