Double Bass Arnopol 8 Cabinet - A Winner!

yes, two Speakons. I've been using the regular Speakons as oppose to the combo jacks. There have been some claiming that the combo jacks aren't completely airtight. Duke uses them and says that this might be true---but to an unperceptable degree. I just assumed that nobody really needed the combos---but if anyone wants them no problem for me to install them---just let me know ahead of time.
For those who are interested I'll have the Crazy 88 done in a few days---20.5 x 10.5 x 13.25---I'm hoping for under 20#. Should compete with most 2 x 10's but sound a heckof a lot better.

I'm still at 3 weeks or less for current orders and for the foreseeable future.

I'm still digging the Crazy8. Sounds even better now that the woofer is broken in. I've also used this as a PA cab and that sounds terrific. A pair of these would be perfect for a PA at a small venue. Anyway, just received a custom padded cover for the Crazy8. I had the cover cut with the open panel at the bottom of the cab (where the four rubber feet are positioned). Very nice fit. The vendor is Custom Amp Covers, Inc.. They've made me several cab covers during the last several years. Good quality, good prices, and they really work with you to ensure a good fit. This cover was $30 plus shipping. This cover is not listed as a standard option. Request a custom cover and they will have the measurements under "Mike Arnopol Crazy 8 Cabinet."

Wow, I had no idea that you were building cabinets! And I thought that my former Wizzy 10 and current Schroeder Mini 10+ Light were light-wow! Do you have a website that goes into more detail and has prices! Do you plan on doing any video comparison tests! I'm an electric player, but my interest is piqued!

(First of all---just wanted the mods to know that I've been getting a lot of messages as far as pictures and info on the 88---I hope it's ok that I post this)

Pictures of a finished Crazy 88. Size is 21.5 x 10.75 x 13" deep.
Weight is 20 lbs. on the button. Just had a friend over to try all the cabs in the house. He and I both agreed that the 88 had the best mids and highs we'd ever heard. The bass is no slouch either. It (the bass) sounded very similar to the Thunderchild TC112 with one port plugged. Which is to say very focused and tight with just enough "bloom". I have my own 112 cab with a 3012ho (VERY similar to a Barefaced Midget) and a Greenboy Bassic with a 3015. They both really cut through in the mids department. The 88 had enough presence to cut through but without any harshness. As Greenboy says " I can't find anything that this cab does wrong". You can't push it past the volume of a 2x 10 cab.(although we did--it just doesn't fart out--) It will meet it but physics are physics. Thanks for all of the interest!

...Levity aside, it does low B as well as a lot of other cabs that are larger.

There are many symphony players out there who own spectacular five string basses, with killer low B strings. Most of them don't need an amplifier, as they are very powerful acoustically. They have been around for quite some time, but they aren't as common as four string DB's with extensions.

Ric, I know - I just didn't have access to anything with an extension or a lower tuning.

Just played a super loud gig with 5 string electric. Crazy 88 on top of a Crazy 8. Articulate, loud deep tight bass. Sounded fantastic. Best definition I've ever gotten Huge room, bad acoustics everyone commented on that they could hear everything I played. Lots of compliments.

When you go commercial with your cabinets and designs, the amplified bass world at large will be a better place. Eight inch speakers are the best for upright bass. imo. I've been sold on the sound of 8" drivers for a long time, but none of the big name amp builders have been willing to stand behind an intelligent design that is practical and affordable.... for instance, EA teased the bass community with 8" cabs, and then backed out when they found a cheaper way to simulate the beautiful sound of a well voiced cab involving 8" drivers.
