Note on the package where is says 'A Low Fat Food'.

The public recently learned that decades ago, sugar makers were bribing scientists/researchers to say that fat was the worst thing for our health.

Newer and impartial research now suggests that sugar wears that crown.

To drift even further from the topic, Sweetwater unexpectedly sent me a bag of sugary candies with my first gear purchase from them - thru eBay/PayPal, no less.

BTW, the item was as described, and worked.

It should mean flawless, as if new from the mint, which is where the word stems from concerning our use of it as an adjective. Unfortunately, it’s meaning has been butchered to mean whatever someone subjectively wants it to mean. He needs to know that people don’t understand their own language. In that, I agree. I’m not innocent of it, I don’t think anybody is. For instance, before this thread, I would have thought mint meant in almost flawless condition, a step above excellent. I was wrong. Not the first time.

My belief was always the same as that of Merriam-Webster, quoted in your post.

It scares me to think that now I now need to look at each selling partner's definition to see whether they agree too, or whether they have diluted it in some way.

Andes are my faves, but Juniors are definitely the way to go at the movie theatre.

Just remember to buy them from the grocery store - if you buy them at the theatre, you may have to make payments (pay-mints?) for the next few years.

....I bought a scratch and dent Fender Am Pro p-bass 5 from them this Christmas from Sweetwater. They showed pics of some scratches in the paint. When I got the bass, the scratches were too small to bother with buffing out.

At least Sweetwater showed you the imperfections up front, and without you needing to ask, right ?

Often I describe stuff so detailed when people get my items they state they are in better shape then they expected. Unless I bought A new bass and it was sealed in A box and removed only for photos then I’d never list it as mint. Even wall hangers at guitar center aren’t mint . Anything played A few hours could only be excellent, people use mint way to freely.

Pretty sure PayPal backs buyers for 45 days after that you are SOL

Sorry to hear about your experience. I bought a Chapman Stick and, while it was okay on most levels, it needed new strings and the case was basically unusable. Neither were mentioned in the write up or showed up in the pictures. Just dealing with those two “minor” items cost me about $200.
Even when one deals with a distributor or manufacturer directly there are problems. I bought a Schecter 6 string and it just didn’t feel right - and it cost me $80 for return shipping. Why?
I bought a Fender Tony Franklin fretless and it’s an awesome bass, but there’s a buzz on the open A up to E flat on the same string. Ordered a string retainer but it doesn’t work with the retro-style tuners on the bass. I don’t think Fender will pay for me to return it and try a new one; yet, a brand new $1600 bass shouldn’t rattle from the first notes one plays on it! Anyway, while that’s not the same thing as your problem, it does make me pine for days when one went to a music store and played a bunch of basses - even a few of the same make/model/year bass, to hear the different tones and choose the right one. Today Guitar Center carries crap. Lower end basses for beginners. I bought my Jazz at GC a couple of years ago - I got what I wanted but they had a crumby selection - and about a month later I went in and wanted to try fretless basses - a Precision and a Jazz, nothing exotic. They had NO fretless basses! I asked if they could get one of each so I could try both and buy one; the kid - and it was a kid - tells me they could get them if I bought them both!!! Cheeky bastard!!! What’s a brick & mortar instrument retailer for if not putting instruments to play & buy on the wall?
The internet is no way to buy a real instrument - we’re not talking about shoes or books!

I think the take-away from this is that if you're going to go through Reverb, read the customer ratings with the seller and check to see if they have a return policy...even above the "sold as is" as the bigger places will offer 2 to 10 days full refund periods.

I've bought and sold a lot of gear through Reverb. Only once did I have an issue - bought a guitar and the seller waited over 10 days to ship. Reverb got involved and offered me $100 in Reverb bucks to cover the shipping costs and the hassles.

Like you, I was outraged that my shipping costs weren't being reimbursed. So this issue drug out over the course of three weeks while the seller and I went back and forth with "he said, she said." I finally took the Reverb Bucks, shipped the guitar back and got my refund.

Moral of the Story: Be realistic about what you expect to get in return. If you do want a refund, maybe you play that angle to get some Reverb Bucks recoup your shipping costs.

Reviving an old threat because this has now happened to me 4 times and think I may be done with Reverb altogether now.

Past 4 purchases have been refunded HOURS after purchase because instrument was sold "minutes" in house before they checked online to see if anything sold. Has happened twice with thunderbirds and hollow bodies the other 2 times
