Artists everyone likes that you don't understand

U2 and REM are in a strange category for me where I absolutely love a certain era of their music and loathe everything else...and both are the exact same period and discography

REM = First four albums and EP are brilliant.....Document (1987) and afterward, they lost me
U2 = also First four albums and EP are brilliant....Joshua Tree (1987) and afterward, they lost me

:D
Before success really went to their heads!

My heart goes out to you. How arduous a journey yours must have been carrying such a burden.

Taylor Swift and Beyonce. How either of these marginally talented people became deities is beyond me.
Right on Taylor swift. In the beginning and even probably now she can't sing very well in tune. Bad for country and now, yeah..
Beyonce is talented but now more image. I can see why you think she is marginally talented. But listen to early Destiny's Child. You do have to like that genre first, if not then it is a moot point,

Was talking with someone this evening about this. He brought up a song and I said I just don't get how anyone liked that artist. Then I mentioned another artist i also feel that way about. I probably shouldn't even name them because I know that at least one would offend a very large number of people here. But, really, have you ever just listened to music by someone popular and said, "I just don't get it?" Sure you have.

Taste is subjective, that's the lovely thing. We all have things we love and hate, and none of us are the same. But it's funny, isn't it?
Prince, Grateful Dead, The Ramones, The Clash, The Kinks, The Police, REM, B-52s, U2, White Stripes and I am sure there are many more that I haven't listed. I'm (obviously) pretty narrow minded when it comes to artists. And while all the aforementioned bands are undoubtedly talented, I just don't get it.

I listen to and play metal. I absolutely hate Pantera, which is somehow one of those holy grail bands in the metal world. I don't get it. I find nothing appealing about any of it.
I personally don't hate Pantera, but they do absolutely nothing for me. Soundgarden is another one that I should like on paper, but they've just never registered for me. I know it's blasphemy in some circles to say this, but I just don't like Chris Cornell's voice.

I stopped listening to pop music some time ago. I just looked at the Billboard Top 100, and I recognize some of the names, and I've maybe heard a song or two by some of them. Everything seems to be about "baby baby", going to the club, and expensive clothing and cars. Apparently you can get rich by doing songs about how rich you are. I wouldn't say I hate all pop music, just bored by most of it.

Country music. Don't get it.
My sentiments. I like a lot of SINGLES that many of the artists listed here. I used to think the bass player for U2 was marginal but after revisiting their music 30 years later I've grown to appreciate his simple, solid and tasteful lines.

EDIT: I went back to hating U2 after Apple tried to shove their album down my throat through my iPhone.

Yeah, takes all kinds I guess. I probably wouldnt hate Pantera if so many people didn't love them and try to convince me they were great... Otherwise i would just file them under bad crap I don't listen to, like justin beiber or jay-z. On the flipside, I love Soundgarden; probably the band I have seen most live. haha! Like a lot of bands on this list, it's just about whether or not it resonates with you. I'm listening to my "Tonights the Night" record by Neil Young right now; I know plenty of people who don't "get it" with Neil because of his singing voice or something else... I don't like or respect any of those people, but they're out there ;):D

Eric Clapton. I like a couple songs but overall I just don’t get it. Never have. Never will. And he is a god in the music industry.

2nd on Led Zepplin. I don’t hate it by any stretch but I never really got it. Jimmy is sloppy at best IMHO. Plant is shrilly. Great rhythm section of course, but overall? Don’t get it.

A few said Billie Eilish. I went down the rabbit hole with her stuff on YouTube a few nights ago. I figured all those Grammys, let me take a listen. And I actually dig it. Knowing her back story helps. Watch her do Carpool Karaoke with James Corden. Fills you in pretty well. She’s really talented and so is her brother.

U2, Radiohead, Mariah Carey, Justin Bumblehead, Rush, Jaco, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Steely Dan, Joni Mitchell, Prince, Led Zepplin, Taylor Swift, Beyonce, the Stones have a few okay songs, but the bulk is meh, so many more.
I can't listen to ANY rap or heavy metal, just not my thing.
