Was talking with someone this evening about this. He brought up a song and I said I just don't get how anyone liked that artist. Then I mentioned another artist i also feel that way about. I probably shouldn't even name them because I know that at least one would offend a very large number of people here. But, really, have you ever just listened to music by someone popular and said, "I just don't get it?" Sure you have.

Taste is subjective, that's the lovely thing. We all have things we love and hate, and none of us are the same. But it's funny, isn't it?

Lil wayne and pretty much the entire "new rap" genre. Like trap, and mumble rap bull. "Young money" I just dont get any of it. Like ANY of it. Its trash. And I'm 33. I'm young. I listen to rap. Underground, mainstream, old school, butt loads of rock rap. I just dont get it. Its trash

Most of what everyone has listed, I actually liked in the past (FWIW, I'm 55 so a bit older too) so a lot of what has been mentioned I grew up with on the radio.

Me thinks there's a difference between bands/music I might not care for and bands/music I just can't/won't listen to - i.e. change the channel on the radio. For me it's Tom Petty & Primus.

TP comes on the radio and I change the channel (ready to hurl your lunch anyone?). My ex would always look at me like I had a third eye when I changed the radio station - and if you've ever been married, you know the look. She was enjoying the song and I pi$$ed in her Wheaties.

Years ago I purchased several Primus CD's. I (even still) just don't get it...

I’m 40 and still, pretty much anything after Ludacris and Missy Elliot’s popular stuff I just don’t understand. When (and why) did it become cool to not have interesting music (albeit sampled) in mainstream rap? What’s funny now is most of the popular artists now all sound exactly the same with their autotuned rap/singing.

Man I feel like an old man. I give stuff a chance I really do. My wife and I have pretty wide tastes for music. I can only pray our son follows in our footsteps.
