There is also time-lapse hypocrisy, where someone is matched up against the standards they declared in the past. Which makes for more interesting, shorter and less factual stories than 'former Christian metal singer who went astray hires hitman to kill wife'.

If his philosophy doesn't allow for one to go off the rails, then it's not a realistic philosophy, because people go off the rails all the time.

He may have known that he was going off the rails, while placing an unrealistic level of trust in some sort of supernatural force to prevent him from doing something dangerous or stupid.

What talkbass are you on? There is supposed to no religious talk here at all and there are piles of guys who "bass for jesus" and even state so in their handle and signature. Look at the jesus clubs... do you see a Mohammed club? How about a Shiva club? Didn't think so.

If anything the board is too christian friendly.

And yes... his faith is entirely proper to bring up as it is his life and income. If the guy played in a metal band and was a christian in his home life I don't think anybody would bring it up.

This has not been a religious debate at all...the debate is over the relevance of the accused's faith in the news stories covering his charges. Hardly a diatribe.

BTW the dude is the singer for the band...not the bassist.

On another note...here in Cleveland, a big case cracked open and the suspect was apparently a bassist which was reported in many news stories. I am not necessarily calling it irresponsible, but is that relevant or newsworthy?

I feel your pain though. Some of the ignorant and delusional stuff posted in this thread just begged to be addressed but what's the use? Learned in hockey that if you react to a cheap shot you're more than likely the one going off the ice.

So here I just try and ignore the deranged, the delusional, the ignorant, the stupid and above all the trolls with their cheap shots

Philosophies don't have to be realistic. And if you want to move over a bit into the gray area, there's a bit of a difference between "everybody makes mistakes, so don't have unrealistic expectations," and "every now and again someone will solicit multiple individuals to commit murder, so don't be unrealistic."
