Ask a guy from New Jersey anything...

I see a few posts asking why we don't leave....

Well....

I don't ever want to leave this state...I LOVE it here.

I was born in North Newark 39 years ago and now live in southern Middlesex County....

If you like the beach without boardwalks.....it's 45 minutes away...

If you like the beach with boardwalks......it 45 minutes away....

If you like the mountains......they're 45 minutes away...

If you like skiing.....it's 45 minutes away...

If you like the city's night life/Broadway musicals/etc.....it 45 minutes away...

If you're looking for a kickin' live music scene with a history of producing a tremendous amount of famous acts who got their start right here in the same kickin' live music scene.....It's all around you.

I wouldn't leave if you paid me

5 minutes for me.

Yeah, another 5 minutes and I'm in a little burg called Asbury Park.

Discuss me some sweatsuits

-sweatpants only = "I have officially surrendered in life"
-sweat suit = " look at me, look at me, I'm jogging!!" (this can be a good thing)
-sweatpants with leather coat in winter = recent eastern-European or central American immigrant
-shiny stylish sweatsuit = "I like to think that I look good AND active" (while often not looking either)
shiny stylish sweatsuit with top unzipped showing gold chains/chest hair = "yo' Vinnie, yo gonna be sleepin' wit' da fishes.." These are the type that you speak nicely to.

Of course, there are exceptions to all of the above...

Stone Pony......Rock Horse.... :bassist:

the Stone Pony! Yes! We never played the Rock Horse though.

there was one tiny bar that we used to play at not too far from where the old "Tillie" sign thing used to be, I cant remember the name, but that place was a trip.
It was a bar set amongst regular houses and as luck would have it there was an old lady who lived next door to the bar. EVERY damn time we played there she called the cops.. eventually we had to resort to an "unplugged" sort thing to make her happy.

Why do I always have to sit in traffic on 5 lane highways?
Why does NY claim the Statue of Liberty?
When did the word 'guido' become acceptable?
Why do you have to pay to leave NJ?
How could you not know who Tracy and Olivia are?
Why do NY football teams play in NJ?
Where is 'OLD' Jersey?

We park funny because if you look at a map, you'll notice the unusual shape on NJ. Go ahead, take a look. Now you tell me how the hell we're supposed to park straight in a state that's all squiggly and crooked like that. We have to park weird to be able to fit all of our cars here.

Brilliant!

I can say the same about living here in Southern California, except that everything is 20 minutes away. :smug:

PLUS, we have way more hot woman and no silly accent.

I'll keep my eye out.

1) because we're unfortunately a) overcrowded b) a main artery up the coastline for some bizarre reason (it's easier to stay in Pa then go east into New England)
2) because they suck
3) when people started going out of their way to look and act a certain way. I respect Italian people greatly. "Guido" is not synonymous with "Italian-American" it is now a contrived way of presenting oneself. much like "Goth", "Emo", etc
4) not sure but compare our roads vs PA's and you'll see a partial answer..
5) I dunno
6) see # 2
