AT LONG LAST! PICS!!

Bassline_deluxe-
I'm hoping you can help me, I have a Bass Collection active bass that has some wires disconnected from the circuit board, I know it's alot to ask but I would love to see a photo of the circuit board so I can hook mine up again? the pickup wires are disconnected from the battery too.
Thanks in advance.

Old thread brought back to life! Just picked up a Bass Collections 5'ver... Nice bass!!

Action is super low and no buzzing.

Only thing I will do to this bass is replace the pups and pre with EMG and Aguilar.

It was hangin' on the wall at Bass Emporium in Austin TX and picked it up for only $299!!
It has 19 mm string spacing and thin neck that plays nicely.

Pics to come!

Does anyone know how to look up the serial numbers on this bass so I can find out the background on it?

This thread lives again!
Ronny, Not sure what information I - or this thread can provide beyond what is already posted. The model you have looks to be one of the last runs before the company went under. It's possible it's a 460 series, but hard to say for certain. Is there nothing in the inside of the cover?
The only other place I believe that there is anything to identify the bass is under the neck. And by under, I mean you'd have to remove the neck- Something I would advise against.

Just a little update on what I recently learned of SGC. One of the reasons that they went out of business is because of the earthquake in Kobe, Japan in 1995 (I believe) They lost their factory and had to move, and I think that was where their financial troubles started to grow. They were out of business less than 3 years later, but had shipped out a lot of stock before closing the doors, which is why you have some 97's and even 98's. Part of this is speculative, part of this is fact. either way, the quake is what started the ball rolling.

And again!

I've just bought a 90s SGC Nanyo active 4-string, but it was made in Korea, not Japan. Anyone know the full story?

It looks and feels great, but I'm new to bass so I've nothing to compare it to playing-wise. I need to clean up the pots as a couple of them are very noisy when used but otherwise it seems fine (after putting a new battery in!).

ETA: Sorry, should have introduced myself as it's my first post! Englishman now living in southern France, poor guitar player now having a go at bass as I always seem to follow bass lines when I'm listening to music.

The pups appear to be SGC and the bridge Gotoh but there is nothing written on them. As you can just see in the second image, the guitar was made in Korea not Japan. There is a serial number in the cavity which starts with 91, so I assume that is when it was made.

The bottom left switch (in the picture below) is push/pull as well as rotary - what does it do? I could try it, but I'd prefer to know what to expect. Tried it, it does f all!

Wow, there are others out there who like these! I have two, a 4-string SB301 and a 5-String SB330. I recently brought them back to life with new PUP's and Preamps. The SB330 got a Bartolini setup and the SB301 got the new EMG X Series. They sound and play great, I have a special attachment to the SB301 because it was the first bass I purchased new, I think back in 1988? I almost had to give up on the SB301, when I was swapping out the PUPs I decided to take all the hardware off and clean it up a bit. I found out that the bridge intonation screws were bent, it took me a while to find a match because the are small and millimeter types. As soon as I found them I noticed that a small weird shaped locking bolt in the bridge split in two. Thought I was screwed but after randomly searching over the past few months I found an exact Gotoh bridge replacement (I was totally shocked, they used this type of Gotoh only on the early SB Series).

They do not get as much playing time as my Roscoe or Tom Clement bass, but they hang on on display with them in my home. Don't know why I like them, I just do...

If I ever find a SB465 I could round out my collection.

Bill.

Hi, I've just stumbled onto this site. How great is it to find others who love B.Cs.
Bought my first one about 16 years ago - hadn't a clue what it was, but it just 'spoke' to me.I love it to bits, it's my first 5 string and does every bass gig with me.
Don't know what year as the print on the back plate has worn off. Is there any other way to check? No clues inside the cavity either. It's an active 5 string, fretted, with gold hardware.
I liked it so much, I bought another 3 yrs ago, just in case.......
Now I need a 5 string fretless - my headless Steinberger is good, but it's not a B.C..........
Any out there; I'm in lil. ole England.

excellent thread about BC! mine is a SB 315 FL - 1994 - the thing I like the most is the fast neck - using roundwound strings I have carved the neck :(
it is also strange that the tuners are mounted "wrongly" probably because of the little space on the headstock..

Heres a thread resurrection.
I got a (right handed) Bass Collection SB301 in pieces in a box from a drummer about 16 years ago. It took about 5 years to do anything with it. The Body ws sanded back to bare wood. the electronics were rattling around the box loose, the neck still had tuners and paint on it.
Im a lefty, so what I did was kinda drastic to most of you. I made a paper trace outline of the body, then I flipped it face down and re-traced it, as if it were a lefty. I transferred the outline of the cutaway to the horn, and the horn over the cutaway. I use that to make a template on the bass, if I cut the horn off in the shape of the cutaway (best I could) and re attach it to the other side of the bass. I stuck the horn on the cutaway. I drilled a installed 2 two 3" screws through them. did alot of sanding and shaping. Made filler from sawdust and glue, and infilled the sugery. Sanded, primed painted. I tood a router and freehanded a new control cavity on the opposite side on the back. I always meant to make a cover for the new cavity, but 16 years later still havent gotten around to doing.
The electronics were loose in the box, and I played with it for a few days and came up with a 3 knob system, with 2 "extra" wires that I just tied together.
So its active/passive, with the tone knob being push/pull, then a VOL for each PUP. 3 knobs.... maybe someday Ill figure what those other leads did. I use the original control cavity for a battery holder. I had another bridge lying around so I used that one. My Jazz needed a pickup while this was going on, so I put the SGC J PUP in the jazz, and slammed a Samick J from parts bin in the SB301.
Interestingly, its fretless. Ive always suspected the person who disassembled it and sanded it had pulled the frets themselves, but never had corroboration. Looking at the info here, it wouldnt have been a 301 if it were factory fretless.
Its been in a case for 10 or more years. Pulled it out today, still in tune, and battery still works (its weak). How the battery isnt flat and corroded is beyond me.
I put Fender nylon Tapewound strings on it all those years ago, and theyre nice on it.. Overall, I dont like its passive sound as much as I LOVE its active sound, especially with the Tapewounds. real present mmmmwwahhh
I was just starting to learn how to slap when I "built" it, so I never gave it any real consideration, and tucked it away. Let me tell you, now that Im a bit older, and have gone through loads of gear and instruments, I am sooo happy I still have it. Looking foreword years to come with it.
Ive attached a few photos of it in its case. Ill have to take one with it hanging from my neck to see how different, or not, it looks.
