ATK appreciation thread

sweet :)

Yessir, you are half correct. He is indeed playing a Variax. It's somewhat like a POD, but instead of effect and amp models, it is guitar models, and a few other stringed instruments. For a live setting, it works great. You don't have to carry 4 or 5 guitars.

FWIW, the other guitar player is playing a Peavey Wolfgang through a POD Pro.

WHOA!

I can't belive I didn't see this thread before!!!

The ATK is my main bass, and after trying out alot of other basses, is STILL my main bass. Only the "E" string is thrubody, and the strings I use are SIT's.

The tone can't be beat!

EDIT: The pickguard is off of it now.

I love my ATK 300, it needs a good set up tho.
I put on some Elixirs, work great. Very shiny sound. I have no problems with cutting thru or low outputs. It's all in the pre amp.
I own the 2000 or 2001 model with violin burst finnish, birdseye maple headstock, maple fretboard.

I bought mine less then a year ago. There's a little story about it.

I was in the market for an 300, but I couldn't find one. One of my buddy's called me on a saturday that he saw in a shop in Amsterdam. I live in the other side of Holland and in the evening I had a gig, so I couldn't go there. But GAS always wins. I drove like a maniac, plugged it in, paid for it. Went back. Picked up my amp.
I was there in time, but I missed the sound check. :hmm: 1st time,...

I tuned the bass back-stage (pic attached) and rawked it. (I foot on the monitor and GO!)

Polly-we have the same bass.

I love my ATK to death. I like low-output. I actually really hate the sound with the -15DB pad in, I just like low-output pickups. It's not like your gaining any volume, because you have to keep turning gain down (if you want it to stay clean, that is) I would much rather have a low-output pickup system than a high one.

For some reason, before this thread, I've only heard people whining about the HIGH out put of these pickups. The gain pot in the pre amp is cranked 3/4 of the way full always. When I was fooling around with it, the ATK output was ALWAYS super hot, not weak at all. I've never had the low output experience that most of you are claiming.

AllodoX, sweet bass! How is the B-string on that one?

Overall Ibanez finishes are high quality and very cool. My see-thru finished "black" BTB changes from grey to purple, deep black and sometimes even brown!

I played a 400 once and I really liked it. I bought the 300 because the quality is much better (that's what I've been told). I had in mind I always could add a single coil PU + 5 way switch. But when I saw the electronics in my baby... Whew! Now I think even a Pro can get lost in this mess. :(
