Atkinson basses... who owns one?

No, his is Alder. The mahogany I built for myself. It's a P/J. I'm shipping it to Chef next week so he can do a hands-on review.

The more I think about it, I am really entranced by that dual P bass on the website. Dan, can you comment on the tone of that bass, say compared to a P J? I know that Lee Sklar recorded most of his career on his dual P bass and I love the idea of that tone.

The dual P has a unique tone. More aggressive than a J bass, obviously. Would definitely cut through a mix. I'm more partial to mellow, smooth tones, so it wasn't my cup of tea. But you might love it.

When I first got started, I was doing them for $775 with AllParts bodies and necks and generic import tuners. Then I started using bodies from USACG and Hipshot tuners, which made the price $875. That was about 6 months ago.

Now I've dropped AllParts completely. I now offer USACG necks and bodies only. AllParts are great for the money, but I wanted to offer a more premium product. The USACG necks are simply unbeatable. Also, I now include full shielding on each bass. Because of these factors, along with increased demand, it made sense to set the price at $1100. Which is still very low for a custom bass.

I really don't see myself changing the pricing at this point. I'm done upgrading the components and features. And I'm a firm believer that a good, custom workhorse bass should be affordable.

I understand. I wasn't sure if costs of labor went up (economy) or you were using better parts or I was crazy and they were always $1100 lol
