ATK's on clearance at MF.

Well, both of mine arrived yesterday. No extras in the boxes for me, either.:(

Anyway, the setups on both were actually very good right out of the box. No sharp fret ends, fairly low action.

The only thing I have here to play them through is my Fender Bassman 150 combo amp, but damn, they sound pretty decent through it.

Just for grins, I'm going to leave my Roscoes at home for tomorrow night's gig, and take the ATK's along instead. I'm interested to hear how they'll sound through my Eden setup. I play in a country/rock variety band, covering everything from the Allman Brothers to the RHCP to Micheal Jackson to the Gear Daddies to Eddie Rabbit to Theory of a Deadman to you name it. So they'll get a pretty broad workout tomorrow night.;)

The sparkle finishes with take some getting used to with me, though.

quick question: this is my first 5'er ever, and the B string is a new and interesting variable. at the moment I'm just playing it through my bedroom amp, a Roland Bass Cube 30, and when I play any of the lower notes on my B string, I get an odd chorus-y sound. the amp isn't farting out per se, but it sounds a bit bizarre. would this be something caused by an ultra low note? or does it sound like something funky with the bass itself?

EDIT: the closest thing I can compare it to is a digital chorus of phaser effect. sounds slightly digital (which is why i suspect this modelling amp) and oddly swirly.

Man... just woke up... grabbed some coffee... sat at the laptop and opened TalkBass... saw this thread... and now 40 pages later i feel like i've been neglecting my old friend!

I got my 95 ATK300 in 2000 and it was my main gig-bass for the next 5 years of heavy touring. But, the past 5 years, my tastes have swayed to the passive basses... i haven't even TOUCHED my ATK in a year.

Well... i leave tomorrow for a little weekend tour... i think i may have to take my old buddy along with me, and i blame THIS thread for it.

I like the honey finish, but couldn't help noticing the rather nasty colour changes on the body. Somebody was asleep at the switch when they were clamping up the lumber for gluing...

Just wondering how many of the sunburst basses purchased in this latest MF sale have a one-piece body?

I got me an 95' ATK300L last week and it's awesome! Gonna sell my G&L L-2000 Tribute (too thick neck) for this one! But I wonder if someone can tell me the difference between the Stingray neck and the ATK neck? Which one is fatter? I really like the sound of the ATK and I wonder if the Stingray would be my next one.

Try lowering your pickup. The pickup in mine was almost touching the strings and I was getting the same funky B string noises. Lowered the pickup and that took care of it.

My mug and picks were free. Music123 has won major brownie points with me thu this deal. They may or may not have lost cash on this deal, but with the way they handled everything, they'll get my future business whenever possible.
