I cant stand them, Their horrible. Their music is a joke, I regret to say as of right now Im the bassist in a metalcore band. I pray we dont turn out like them. We have other influences that help create our sound. Not much of my style though, I'll probably be out soon. Im all for metal, but this isnt what I call music, its a hodge-podge of 40 different styles in one. Not cool.

Yeah...that's my favorite part! I have to go back and see that again!!! He he he!!! Is that the patented, "Over the Shoulder, Axe Holder"?

They're recognized all right... mostly by people who hate them, but they definitely got their name out there. It works. Lil B is another guy from a completely unrelated genre that I see doing something similar.

If you hate how it sounds, that's perfectly reasonable. I don't actually like their music much either, haha. Kinda fun but too heavy for my taste.

I didn't say they weren't recognized - I said outside of their genre and childish age demographic they fail miserably.

theyve been through 2 different singers at this point. although im not sure it matters. if you're all t-pain and screams, anyone can do it

im a little frustrated with how THIS of all things is getting over. anyone can do that.

but its the same frustration with most pop music. i write intelligent metalcore-esque music and i have this dribble to contend with.

Screaming good is difficult. These guys actually have pretty good screams. Not the best, but good.

And by that logic, anybody can play nickelback, why aren't we famous?

Cause they're better writers.

This is the same deal as fall out boy. Easy songs.

It's far less about being a better writer. For starters, they are from an affluent suburban community. Like my parents always said, "It takes money to make money." Second, they have a certain uniqueness (albeit sucky uniqueness) about them that gives them the ability to engage anti-label immature kids. Thirdly, it's that demographic of immature kids that will pay for the flavor of the month music. Most (and I don't say all as there are probably some intelligent musicians/listeners out there somewhere who enjoy this) buyers into this joke of a band do it for reasons far beyond the actual music (the look, the "en vogue" stupid auto-tune, etc.). Fall Out Boy actually made some decent music at first. Nothing amazing but it was interesting tongue-in-cheek stuff.

Most importantly, it's all about who you know. The reason many of us don't make it big like this puss-party band is because we A.) Let our life get in the way of our passion and don't engage the producers and consumers who can get us ahead and B.) weren't born with the silver spoon in our mouth, having Billy Ray Cyrus as a father or living next to the bigshot record producer in suburbia.

And these are good points. True for some and not for others.

I find these guys a band who, like a good deal of popular bands, have a few good songs and a good deal of crap as well.

I was thinking that too. I kinda like the metal aspects and think they do a decent job at that part.

Is it me or is anyone else hearing influences of Avenged Sevenfold and perhaps even Trivium in there. It might be the vocals that are making me think Trivium.

I'm also seeing influences of underoath, are you not?

If you want to see true metalcore revolutionaries, look at Between the Buried and Me. Good screams, good singing, insane vocal range, good guitar, crazy rhythm (yes, it's possible.), amazing bass (he is a god.) and a great drummer. The singer is very good at keys too.

have you read any of their lyrics?

Just got caught up on this thread...

No, I haven't. Nor do I intend to, but I'll give you a small sampling of some of my all-time favorite songs & their opening lyrics:

Sleep-Dopesmoker
Drop out of life with bong in hand
Follow the Smoke toward the Riff filled Land

Bob Dylan-Mr. Tambourine Man
Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me
I’m not sleepy and there is no place I’m going to
Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me
In the jingle jangle morning I’ll come followin’ you

Om-Rays Of The Sun/To The Shrinebuilder
Spirate flow on dawn arise outpour the letting sieve.
Thaumaturged stained hands down to insets a rain enlive.
Travel on. Freedom. The shrieve to sky and recondite.
Travel nerves to freedom at labyrinth borne-sun.

Jimi Hendrix - Machine Gun
Machine gun
Tearing my body all apart.

Pink Floyd-Us And Them
Us, and them
And after all were only ordinary men.
Me, and you.
God only knows it's not what we would choose to do.

Divorced from the music, most lyrics don't work so well. They're not supposed to. Its not poetry, or any other form of stand-alone literary expression.
