Atypical Talkbass...

Rogue Dead Guy Ale. Definitely needs more airtime...

Stapp called Bell's Theorem "the most profound discovery of science." Note that he says science, not physics. Agree/Disagree?
The theory embodies the weirdness of Quantum Theory.

Most folks think science is about A->B. Bells theorem is the dagger in the heart of deterministic science.

Something similar has been going on in mathematics. We used to say that once you proved something in math, that was it. Now, its that you only proved something according to certain initial assumptions.

Neither of these overturn whats been done if you keep em in perspective. Richard Feynman warned us that Mother Nature may be ultimately unfathomable.

Why not?

Not counting things that are against the rules, what are things we rarely or never hear about on Talkbass?

I can't think of much.

Dwarf bass players?

Scuba Diving?

Marbles. Nobody talks about marbles here.

Help?

I lost my marbles years ago.

Practice. We rarely, if ever, discuss how to practice and how to squeeze in more practice. :D

A couple Feynman quotes that stuck in my mind...“I'm smart enough to know that I'm dumb.” and “I learned very early the difference between knowing the name of something and knowing something.”

Certainly profound in that the implications go beyond just quantum physics, which I suspect why he said "in science" rather than "in physics" in his words of praise for the theorem.

As far as most profound goes , I'm not what I'd consider qualified to have an opinion since my knowledge of quantum physics doesn't go beyond a well read layman's understanding.

But it is a pretty cool bit of work on Bell's part. (One of the better practical demonstrations of it here.) :)

Yeah, a lot of this stuff I didn't really study. But I like reading and have an interest in the subject, so I'm certainly not so qualified myself. Thanks for the link.

Marble is a metamorphic rock which originates from limestone or dolomite when subject to intense and prolonged tectonic actions.
The metamorphic process leads to a complete obliteration of the crystalline structure of the parent rock bringing to the formation of a new rock which, especially in the case of marble derived from limestones, tends to be more resistant to the weathering action of the environment ... that’s why statues are made of marble rather than limestone ...

Note:

I have excavated marble with a tunnel boring machine ... I didn’t notice any significant difference with respect to carrying out an excavation through limestone, as when you install a so-called high-mass bridge on a Fender bass to supposedly increase the notes’ sustain ... Never found any noticeable improvement

Which car for a bass player: Lambo or G-Wagon?

Octobass vs Sousaphone

Favorite dwarf planet: Pluto or Ceres?

Talkbass members who are actually dogs?

Science, at its most granular scale, is physics.

OK, I'll bite....

Cheesburgers in particle accelerators used to determine man's first thought.

How much are the Cheesburgers on the Alpha Centauri?

Can Cheesburgers cross polinate?

Is a Cheesburger male or female?

I could go on....

FWIW, my wife and I just went with quarts countertops. YMMV.
