Dude, you keep telling me I don't know what I'm talking about when you're operating under mistaken assumptions of what I know. That's why I'm getting snippy. Because you brought the snippy first.

I realize that a thunderchild uses a different woofer than the 3012LF, and that there is a bit more low end extension in the 2x12 model. I also realize it uses a bigger horn and a lower crossover.

I don't say it costs too much for what it is; I say at 1400 bucks the price is going to be too high for it to sell very many. There is only so much two 3012LFs are capable of doing volume-wise. I'm sorry if you disagree with that...it's not a statement of fact it's a statement of opinion.

Unless there is some kind of secret magic I'm missing, like maybe it's powered and grants 3 wishes, that's my opinion. Sorry for disagreeing with you.

I really hadn't thought about competing with Meyersound and am flattered at the thought. I'm content for now just to compete with other bass cabs that are voiced in the same general category as what I'm shooting for... and I'm not exactly sure what the name for that would be. Sorry for the newbie question... but, what would ya'll call the type of voicing you hear in my cab?
great question. not having heard the finished product, i can't say. but i think the words "hi fi" would have to be used, although i think there's a lot more to it than that. maybe hi fi with balls? ;)

you're a lot closer to the mark with the 3 wishes thing ;)

i know everything about duke's 212 cab, that is true. ok, i don't know EVERYTHING, but i know how it's designed, and if you think it's a double thunder child, you clearly don't understand what it's about. which is fair...you haven't seen it or heard it and i've seen and heard the prototype so naturally i would know more about it than you. nothing to get all snippy about. calm down.

all i'm saying is don't make a judgment about the cost until you've at least seen it and understand what it does.

A big +1 to that and AMEN ... jeeze.

I will be more than happy to comment on the Meyer sound vs Thunderchild comparison after I receive my TC, as I have had the Meyer UPA-1P for extended auditioning on two different occasions and wrote an extensive review at that time. :>)

The UPA-1p is not voiced as low, and as such is meant to be used with a sub (which I did employ with Acme's and a Meyer sound x-over, Millennia Origin Pre and a CA-9 amp).
That said, my focus will be the x-over region and the character/coloration (or lack thereof) of the horn in a bass guitar application with the same pre and power amp.

I think what Jimmy's been hinting at, but unable to say because he's likely agreed to an NDA-type situation, is that Duke's 2x12 is going to use a radically different design than the standard 'two twelves directly radiating out the front face of a rectangular cuboid cabinet' design philosophy. A radical enough departure from that basic design could make some of your statements about the limitations of a 2 x 3012lf moot. If he's agreed to such an arrangement, he can't tell you why he's disputing you, which perhaps has led to the friction betwixt you two. :)

Given his propensity for paying attention to dispersion pattern and reverberant+direct energy superposition (both of which give me the warm fuzzies as a physicist), I'd bet that Duke's got one of the following up his sleeve... if I were a betting man.

  • non rectangular cuboid cab (those [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] look awesome)
  • one 12 on each of two adjacent faces ( 90-180 deg. dispersion arc)
  • one 12 rear firing (a serious jump in reverberant SPL, which is mucho bueno for bass frequencies)

I feel smarter just from reading that reply. :D

I'm really anxious to see this cab!

the first on here maybe, but i told duke this sounds like it would be good for guys using meyer cabs like anthony or sting when i beta tested the 212 cab. of course, the meyers are into a whole new cost realm and he and sting can afford it. but for folks like me who would like to have a meyer and can't afford it, ths'll be a great alternative.
Agreed.

I'm thinking AJ playing his contrabass through this cab (or the impending 212) would be an experience not to be missed.

I regret that I can neither confirm, nor deny, the allegations.

... you guys are too [DAMN] smart...

By the way, Jimmy's agreement with me is verbal only; he's really just doing me a favor.
