I own a Jack 12, and there is no way in hell a 12/6 gets as loud without a 6nd410 midrange and adjustable padding (e.g. an active crossover or a switch). But, you're right, it gives up evenness to achieve that.

Per the above, I clarified my rather unclear writing in my original post (I thought the impedance description would make which cab I was talking about clear). We are saying the exact same thing (for once). Our descriptions fit pretty much every HO versus LF cab I've compared IMO.

My target with the Thunderchild was to get just barely enough bass to catch the first overtone of low B, perhaps needing a dB or two of boost but being able to handle it. That's just where I happened to judge the "sweet spot" to be, as far as juggling the bass extension/box size/efficiency tradeoffs; for many bass players, the sweet spot will be somewhere else.

The Jack sounds NOTHING like a 3012Ho cabinet. Not even remotely similar. Maybe like a 3012HO cabinet with a +6db eq centered at 300hz, and extension up to 10khz And the polar response all the way up.

Also, there is zero of the upper midrange distortion you hear with the 3012HO. It's smooth as silk up there -- loud, but clear. Not grindy at all. Definitely a different tone.

The only similarity is on the low end, and the jack does have a little bit more going on down low than the 3012HO by itself, but not a lot.

* I have not compared a Jack to the Thunderchild but knowing what i know, it will sound like the TC has more relative low end, but if you cut eq on the jack to remove the massive low mid hump it will have pretty close to the same low end sensitivity as the TC. Not quite the same max SPL, and a little less because of the 4 ohms thing.

Again, much more mid present, much less even, more attenuated low end, higher general SPL versus the TC to my ears.... so +1. We seem to be again saying pretty much the same thing regarding the general tone profile, which was my point in trying to answer the OP's question.

I disliked that Jack when I played it, but pure personal taste there.

^ Thanks Ken. I am thinking about putting up a youtube video review once I get it now that I have a digital camera that does a bit of video. The playing won't be nearly as good as yours, but at least I can give a visual representation of what the Compact is all about.

Just letting everyone know that there is now a second source for a Thunderchild cover. I had Gary & Co at Tuki make one up for me. Great service, great fit, and a terrific padded cover as always. I believe the Tuki part number is "adkthch1": padded; black; no logo; bottom strap; $59.

Although I'm a regular Tuki customer I actually went to LeCover first, knowing that they already had the specs from Ken and that I wouldn't have to measure, etc. I never heard back from them so I went the Tuki route. I know that LeCover has great products and service, I'm sure mine was an unusual and rare experience.
