AudioKinesis Cabs Part VI...

Well, for the record, this combination sounds fantastic! I'm really really taken with the sound of this amp set flat into a 4 ohm load. It's inherent tube"centric 3-d nature pairs/balances very nicely with these cabs. Plenty of clean volume with a loudish rock quartet, and it cuts rights through the mix. I really love the way it's feel made me play. Beats the D800 hands down for me. I'll try it into a 2 ohm load this week.

Nice Rig... My Walkabout is my FAVE amp of all time.. I only wish it had more power at times.. But it is a TONE machine

Has anyone tried out the AK stuff with the Gallien Krueger MB800's?

Also, I think I've read-- there isn't a whole lot of difference between the MB500 and MB500 Fusion. Thoughts?

I just bought a GK MB500. It really has an excellent tone! I'm trying to imagine what a MB800 would sound like. I guess you could say I really like the GK stuff!

I have used all of my GK MB's (200, 500, 500 Fusion, 800, 800 Fusion) with my TC112AF and TC115AF to very good effect. The MB800 with the TC115AF really impresses...

im definitely interested in the birdhaus for upright bass, but would like to suggest a slight variation. so many gigs the amp is literally right up against the back of my legs. i cant hear a thing standing literally right on top of it. makes it hard to play in tune this way. i would love to see speakers on the top! at least one...

@DukeLeJeune solved that by placing cloth grills for his tweeters on the top of the cabs. :)

Actually I think I misquoted. The 3" speaker on the top side is more of a full range speaker. I'm with you, I used to HATE cabs with that annoying sizzle that everyone in every video and music store cranked so they could wank on the bass! But this driver is different. It handles a lot of power, and you can turn it down by a bunch of db's. I like the old school overdriven hardly any high end sound myself. Wish you could hear the AKs. They are incredible!

i currently have a thunderchild AF version 1. is this what you are talking about? i am still left wanting... a birdhaus with speakers on top, like the phil jones combo amp, would interest me. i probably would have bought a phil jones already except they dont offer a cabinet only version, only a combo. if you are not referring to the thunderchild then please refer me to the one are are talking about.

The Hathor line has top and side slots which allow sound to travel up to the player's ear, works really well on cramped stages

Here is the one I have.

It pumps out the midrange and highs through the top--do you see the vents? It really does make a difference! I hope other H1203 users can chime in here....

that looks cool. i get it, but as long as duke was designing a cab for the people on the stage to hear, i was suggesting that he not leave out one person... i know a small cab like this would be great with upright bass, and the size gigs i play. generally, i dont care what the people in the audience think of the group. im playing for the people on the stage. criticize that all you want, but its becoming a reality in the modern jazz scene, and this seems like a perfect use for what duke has in mind for the birdhaus. something small, for the tiny stages where the amp is practically between your legs and the ride cymbal is hitting your elbow and if you're not careful the violin corner on your bass will start playing the high notes on the piano. i think the hathor would be too big for this, based on my experience with the thunderchild.

The Hathor is much smaller than the 15 TC. I think the birdhaus is bigger than this one. A lot of upright players love this cab.
