Thinking of putting them in the classifieds but don't want to ship them (pretty expensive, Post Office keeps raising their rates) and would prefer a local sale. So just testing the waters to see if anyone would be interested.....I'm in BC.

In case you don't know about ThunderTots.....they are 112 ThunderChild cabs without the horn. So they are shorter than the TC and weigh 25 lbs each. They were perfect for me and still would be but they need to get played and not be den art.

I'm trying to decide whether I should put then in the classified....

I am sure sorry to hear about your challenging situation, loopee! It has been an honor to have a pair of my cabs in your home, and I understand if that's no longer practical.

The Thundertots were one of a kind (okay, two of a kind) and loopee has the only two. They were named by loopee herself, and isn't that a great name?? She asked me for lightweight basic cabs that would handle a lot of power. The single 12" woofer in them is a custom job that uses the Kappalite motor, 8 ohms as I recall and rated at 450 watts like the stock 3012LF, and I don't have any more of them.

I don't remember the dimensions but the box was just about as small as I could make it and still shoehorn in a 12" woofer and a rear-facing port, so the footprint is probably about the same as a Hathor 1203 but they look shorter than the 1203 in the photo so they probably have even less internal volume. My recollection is that they weighed about 23 pounds each.

Theoretically I could use the 4-ohm Kappalite 3012LF (same as what's in the TC112v3) and include the "4/8 ohm" switch so that it could safely be paired with an 8-ohm cab, such as your TC112v3. Not that I don't have too many projects going on already... but Tots at least would be pretty straightforward.

I'm in the middle of transitioning from having boards for my cabinets cut professionally on a CNC machine back to doing them myself by hand. Prices here are just way too high for CNC work, and it might not be bad to have the flexibility of being able to cut and build what I need when I need it instead of trying to guess ten sheets' worth of boards in advance.

This weekend I'll start working on what will replace the Hathor 1855. The specifics have changed quite a few times (most recently Friday morning) as I've learned a bit more here and there, and so I hesitate to say what it will end up as for sure, but at least there is a "most promising configuration" that I'm going to build first.

I'll still be working towards filling orders of course - that's how I finance my R&D binges.

The Birdhaus 46 will be added to the lineup as well, and with input from Mark I'll be changing its footprint to wider-and-shallower so that it will fit on top of the Hathor 1203 cab.

I haven't figured out a practical, affordable, and lightweight cab that would fit shwashwa's description... for one thing, there's a non-obvious technical hurdle that I'll have to figure out. You see, if we have one woofer on each of four faces - front, sides, and top - the output is actually the weakest towards the front! This has to do with the interaction between the woofers firing off in different directions resulting in a little bit of cancellation - it's not as bad as the beaming we'd get from a 2x2 cluster on the front, but we really do want the loudest direction to be the one aimed at the audience, I think.

approx. 23 lbs.

But I've decided to keep them for now....I'm selling all my guitar stuff first....amps, guitars, pedals.....bass stuff going last.....lol...just can't part with my bass gear yet....other than pedals, I'll have a few in the classifieds next week......sorry for the tease but you'll know 2 ThunderTots are out there and will be available at some point in the next few years....

Duke's cabs, however, are definitely worth keeping, especially if you found the formula needed to achieve "your tone." Keep the tots together and use just one if cartage is an issue. Plus, the opportunity to use both together might be just around the corner, and maybe it's the best opportunity yet.

Yes, you are quite right.....I can't let them go yet....maybe in 5 years when I'm 70.....thinking of selling my MB Fusion 500 and MB LMii and getting a Magellan....that way I could use one cab and still have 450 watts available at 8 ohms. I can do one cab, one head, one bass.....just so I can continue playing.

hehehe....I guess Duke will be upset with me....lol....they are a perfect little cab if you like vintage....and what you put in is what you get out....I've never liked horns or tweeters and always turn them off on my other cabs....so no point having any.....which is why I came up with the idea and asked Duke if he could do it for me.....and he did....and I've had the cabs I should have had from the very beginning....too bad I haven't been getting more gigs or been in a band in the last few years....they deserve to be played.....so I'll keep enjoying them once in a while in my den or maybe future gig (I ain't dead yet..lol).....did 2 BBQ parties last summer...hopefully I'll have more this summer.

Thanks for jumping in Duke.....You certainly have my permission to use the name ThunderTots.....they are your creation after all.....and OMG that 4/8 ohm version you mention would mean I could keep using my 500 w head and get all 500 watts in one cab instead of selling my 2 500 watt heads and getting a 900 watt head so I could at least have 450 w in one 8 ohm cab. Maybe I could get a new 4 ohm Tot and sell my 2 8 ohm Tots to another lucky TBer and then there'd be at least 2 happy TBer's enjoying Tots.....hmmm......what a wonderful idea......maybe we need to talk Duke....lol...and yes, I think they are 23 lbs and not 25 lbs as I thought.....or I could sell one and send you the other for "modding" to a 4/8 ohm?

Good news on the Birdhaus going into production!

I've had nothing but good results with a Birdhaus prototype live. We've been out once or twice a week for the last few months, and it worked well in every room it has been used in so far. Only grief I got was from a guitarist (one gig with the 46 and him) where he didn't like how much of my instrument was able to be heard on stage. Not major flack, just a quick comment, so I ran fearful next time out and he was happy.

If I have GAS for anything it is a Hathor 15 as we are starting to book some bigger stages.
