Hello. The few Auralex platforms I own are several years old. I just checked and saw newer versions of each. Mine are the SubeDude (under the Hathor 1203 in the photo above), and the Gramma and Great Gramma.

For a modest investment and no fuss, those Auralex platforms seem to work okay. But if you are interested in top shelf acoustical decoupling and damping, try Invalid Link Removed. Steve Herbelin is like a magician; only he uses, you know... science and stuff. :) Also he charges a small fraction of what the audiophile snake oil vendors do, and he is a nice guy.

btw all, after a long, somewhat grueling day, at the very tail end of a big jam/rehearsal, i thought i'd somehow fried my 1203s, despite being very careful always. Duke was all over it right away, but i advised him to hold off. next day i did further testing & A/B'd everything with my LDS Faitals cab - and i was the problem, not the cabs - they're fine. thanks, Duke.

Bass player (and Thunderchild 115 owner) Jeff Hedback is the acoustician who designed the Gramma. He's an award-winning studio designer now, and from time to time he recommends my work to the studio owner. Right now I have a bid in to do the main monitors for a studio he designed, and the wall-mounted speakers I'm proposing will be capable of an honest 122 dB at 20 Hz, using some pretty sweet parts (including large-format Beryllium-diaphragm compression drivers).

Herbie's Fat Dots work very well, I haven't used any of his other products yet.

Thus far, to the best of my knowledge, no one has managed to fry any of the little 3" Faital mids in my Hathor cabs. Now don't take that as a challenge to see who can be the first! But I tip my virtual hat to Faital for making a pretty rugged little driver. Of course I try to do my part too - I summon the mystical powers of science and stuff to cast a protection spell on each cab before it gets shipped.

I'm glad to hear you had good experiences with Fat Dots. My successes are with Herbie's tube dampers (so fine), tonearm damper and turntable mat (turned my cheap-*ss turntable into a contender!), Tenderfoots, Baby Booties, and stainless steel cone/spike Puckies.

As with anything, don't overdo it, folks: you can damp the life right out of your audio system. :D

Well I didn't get badges done in 2016 like I was hoping to. I got some samples and some quotes but when the year ended I was waiting for further quotes. Apparently nothing happens in the second half of December, but this week I'll be re-connecting with two companies that were supposed to get back to me.

I try to figure out "what matters" in hopes of finding where it might intersect with "what I can do". You guys are my main source of information on "what matters", and I appreciate your input very much.

I'm going to try to work a bit more product development into my production schedule in 2017. My hope is to average one day a week on product development. So I may be asking you guys for input again here and there, like when I asked about the switches, not long ago.

hmm. personally, i'm lukewarm on the badges thing. i know a lot of folks want badges, though. i kind of like the anonymous, slighty woodshop, look of AKs - it's fun to see the questioning glances turn into nods of satisfaction when you fire them up somewhere. don't settle for something unless it really knocks you out!

When I first started playing and bought my used Eden cab, I ordered the missing Eden badge so that people would know it's an Eden. Shallow yes, but what can I say.

I don't even have possession of my thunderchildren yet, but I want AK badges for a similar but opposite reason - so that people might hear and find Audiokinesis without having to ask, and send some business Duke's way for a great cab of their own.

Personally, I'm not all about badges and branding either, so no offense taken if you'd rather keep the anonymous woodshop look!

And it's not going to be a big badge that you can read from the back of the room... most of my cabs wouldn't have room for something like that unless we stick it on the grille. I'll probably include a badge when I ship a cab but attaching it will be optional. I'll try to get enough badges so that I can send them to people who already have a cab if they're not into anonymous woodshop chic.
