So stating from the outset that I haven't kept up with new amps and features and vendors, there's a reason.
I've been using Acoustic Image amps for maybe 12-15 years. They never fail. They have great two channel features. The company provides the best customer service you could ask for. Small, light, super reliable, hi-fi frequency range; they've been doing two ohm since their early years and I've used two 4 ohm cabs (Euphonic Audio Wizzy's) in parallel on many gigs. I've played upright, fretless, 6 string acoustic, 6 string electric, vocals and guitar at same time, bass and drums at same time, and even just a two channel hi-fi PA for a small gig where space and volume were limited.

It's possible AI was in the forefront of the lightweight powerful amp momentum; not sure. And I haven't keep up with amp vendors since my two 2-channel amps (a Focus and a Clarus) have provided all the flexibility, power, features and reliability I need. One validation of their value to players is that their resale value is very high. And no I'm not affiliated with them or any vendor in any way.

I use a Puma 500 with my Hathor 1203. It sounds awesome, and the whole rig is small enough for carry-on luggage:

Does the Hathor fit in that suitcase? Can you actually carry it on a plane? Someone was asking about cabs that could be carried on a plane, awhile back, in another thread. All of the suggestions were tiny -- I'd think the cab would be too deep to take, but just being able to fit it (and the amp!) in a little rolling suitcase would be cool.

I actually don't know. I took the picture as a joke because I happened to be packing for a trip. I apologize if I seemed serious--I didn't realize this was an issue for people.

Checking the numbers, though, the answer is almost certainly no. It's the depth that gets you. Most airlines allow 22" x 14" x 9". The 1203 is 18" x 14" x 13.5". I see a lot of people pushing that 9", but I don't think 15" (allowing for padding) would fly. Pardon my terrible pun.

i first saw a walter woods head in 74/75. al jarreau was opening for les mccann at the troubadour in l.a. (i think it was the night that al got signed)

the bass player (wish i remember his name; it was a great band) had this little red box on top of a 1x15 and sounded huge. mind-blowing really, when you consider how big amps had to be to fill a stage or a room at that point in time.

i saw larry coryell at a little dive in brkly, 1970. just larry, a drummer, and an animated young bass player - P bass with a maple board. played their asses off for about 20 patrons. i think it was will lee. what do you think?

For what it's worth, I figured you were serious about the suitcase but didn't know if you thought it would actually go on a plane (and I did figure it was too deep). Planes aside, cab, amp, and cables in a little rolling suitcase -- maybe not so bad on a rainy day?

Last night's hit. Pointed the H1203 at the drummer (who is a sub) so he had all the bass monitor he could want, then had perfect eye-line for me to cue him. Steely Jam has set endings for the tunes, some of them not obvious. Looking forward to putting a C1223 (1233?) underneath the H1203.

a shot in the dark...it looked like him. the gig ( long defunct club named mandrake's, ) stands out 'cause i was used to the local and touring acts of the time around the bay area, but sitting on a stool a few feet away from those guys was something new - didn't quite know what it was, but it was freaking me out.

Yes yes. Fine tune and nice chunky bass. You can almost see the bass man there a couple of times.

i have some cringe moments about my playing on that tune. i think the ideas are pretty good, but some of my execution sounds iffy.

overall, i think it's a pretty cool tune. we tracked the keys, bass, drums, steel and guitar in one room. no overdubs that i recall. then all the other stuff put on top. chris has a cool aesthetic and i'm happy that he's included me on some of his work. (also on this disc on bass are anthony shadduck, mike watt, max bennett [!!!] and i think devon hoff. i'll know more when the album drops.) and now done with tmi.

we just use the amp for me to have a quiet monitor in the room. basically he likes it direct. since this date i've started using an ebs microbass2 before the di so i can control things a little bit more (shhh, don't tell). this recording is with my headless 6-string fretless (i think it's a little too percussive for the track). pretty sure this one is no effects. i've done a couple of things with him where we used a lot of overdrive stuff. like i said, i've been lucky that he tends to trust me to do stuff.

when i record my own stuff, i'm more into miced cab and direct. (for instance, different project, same bass, i.e. xerograph deluxe for some tone shaping through puma 500 into tc112 plus direct: )

me? did i? maybe 5th in the bass at one point? chris likes and sometime dictates things like that. the thing i like most about this is when i echo the ascending line the singers do in the bridge (or whatever it is). another example of chris trusting me to do something.

EDIT. we probably did three tracks in about 5 hours that day, so i don't remember much about it.

Love the growl and the hookup with the drummer.
As to the percussive comment boy, that's a good question.
I really like the percussive tone compatibility of the bass with the drums.
